Tamil Nadu Government Counsel Defends Mandatory Aadhar Verification Requirement


The ongoing plea by real money gaming apps against the Tamil Nadu Goverment edicts of a mandatory Aadhar Card and two-step verification, among other aspects, is heating up. 

According to reports, counsel for the Government appeared before the court, and said that taking only driving licences of users and passports would only be a one-step verfication.

During the arguments, the counsel also said that other aspects, like a Night Ban, would be essential to ensure that youngsters don’t take undue advantage of such gaming apps. The Night Ban would mean that poker apps will not be able to operate between 12 AM to 5 AM.

The current suit is on-going, after some real money gaming companies filed a plea in the court against the various restrictions that the Tamil Nadu Government plans to affect on online rmg apps.

The revised regulations have sent shockwaves throughout the industry. While it has streamlined the aspects liken online real money game,  prize money, it has also added some aspects, including restricting  anyone under the age of eighteen from participating in RMG apps. 

Real Money Gaming apps have been under a cloud in India for quite a while now, and it remains to be seen how this current challenge for the gaming industry in India turns out.

There have been some positive developments for the gaming industry in India in recent times, with even Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that he wants to see Indian IT at the forefront of the global industry. Companies like Nazara Technologies have increased their investments in gaming app. and even taken over foreign game publishers.

It now remains to be seen what twist the current case takes. There has been some trouble brewing for Indian real money and poker apps since a while now. One of the biggest hits the industry got was when the industry was slapped by a 28% GST notice, which was retrospective in nature. This has allegedly been the reason for the shuttering down of some apps, as well as layoffs in others.
