SSS Day 5: Pranjal Gandhi and Ankit Talwar among winners!


Yesterday was the fifth and final day of the Spartan Super Series (SSS) December 2018 edition on The Spartan Poker. On the day, every other tournament would’ve been classified as a side event in comparison to The Millionaire INR 1 crore GTD which was the top tournament of the night, also serving as the Main Event of this edition of the SSS series.

While Vinod Megalmani aka ‘Champ1234’ emerged victorious in the Main Event, here, we’ll run through the winners of the side events on SSS Day 5, which included ‘ONEbyONE’Pranjal Gandhi‘STIRFRYY’ and Ankit Talwar, all winning different tournaments and taking away varying prize monies.

SSS Event #22 INR 150k GTD

The first tournament on the final day started with an INR 550 buy-in and here, 157 players registered to take part (not including re-entries), from which the top 21 players finished in the money, each taking away a minimum of INR 1,875. Eventually, the player who emerged victorious from this field was ‘ONEbyONE’ who beat ‘maynardJK’ in heads-up, taking away the biggest tournament prize of INR 36,000 for first-place. The final hand of the tournament saw maynardJK shoving all-in on the river with a pair of Nines. ONEbyONE called with a pair of Jacks to win the pot and the title.

SSS Event #23 INR 2.5 Lakh GTD

A buy-in of INR 880 was associated with the second tournament SSS tournament of the day, which attracted 199 unique players, with the top 27 being paid out a min-cash of INR 2,696. Pranjal Gandhi aka ‘lilmessipranjal’ was declared the champion when the tournament ended in Level #42, with the blinds at 16,000/32,000-4,000. Here, Gandhi beat ‘Abhipok’ in heads-up to win the top prize of INR 59,716. The last hand was a pre-flop all-in which saw Gandhi winning with Aces and Nines against his opponent’s pair of Sixes. Gutshot congratulated Gandhi on another win on Spartan and he said, “Thanks. I’m delighted to have shipped an SSS event, overcoming a tough field.”

SSS Event #24 PLO INR 8 Lakh GTD

With a buy-in of INR 3,300, this was one of the few PLO tournaments scheduled for the series, with 271 players registering and including re-entries, the guarantee was slightly passed. The top 21 players shared the spoils in this tournament with a min-cash of INR 10,162 and here, ‘STIRFRYY’ emerged as the champion, taking away a healthy prize of INR 1,95,120. In heads-up, he beat ‘chocha’ who was also handsomely rewarded with a prize of INR 1.3+ lakh.

SSS Event #26 INR 350k GTD

Chronologically, this was the final tournament to take place in this edition of the SSS on The Spartan Poker. The tournament was a relatively smaller one with The Millionaire also taking place simultaneously. It had a buy-in of INR 1,100 and 145 unique players joined the competition, with the highest 25 places sharing the prize pool with a min-cash of INR 3,850. Ankit Talwar aka ‘Ankkiii’ was declared winner and the SSS ended on a high for the player, shipping the tournament for INR 1,01,500 in prize money. It ended when he beat ‘fishstar’ in heads-up who won INR 55,125 for finishing second. When Gutshot spoke to the winner, he said, “It obviously feels great to ship an SSS tournament and probably I have some special bond with the last tournament of the series as this is the second time that I have shipped the last one. Hope to continue the run.”
