Spartan Poker signs Sangeeth Mohan as first Team Pro

It’s been barely four months since Spartan Poker launched its online poker portal catering to Indian players and they have been spreading their wings with much rapidity. They are the fastest growing site in the country and their growing player base bears testament to the overall rise of online poker in the country.

Earlier today, in a press release sent to Gutshot, it was officially announced that Sangeeth ‘Samoh’ Mohan, a well known poker pro from Kerala has been signed on as the first member of the Spartan Pro Team. Mohan has quite the player resume with multiple wins within and outside India including a win at the inaugural Asian Poker Tour, Asian series’ Main Event in Goa back in 2012. He also made a splash that year on the Asian circuit with a 10th place finish at the Main Event of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour. The big man that he is, Mohan has a bigger personality to boot making him one of the most well-liked and respected players on the Indian circuit. The addition of Mohan as Team Pro has powered up this new team and will be expected to do some great things in the coming months.

Spartan Poker has been coming up with some innovative initiatives since its inception. It has made no bones about being a tournament-friendly site with plenty of tournaments to appeal to all appetites. The guarantees in place for many of these have been increasing as well leading to plenty of value for players. Their association with the India Poker Championship as primary sponsors of the live event also meant players from across the country could now play for seats into India’s biggest tournament series for a fraction of the cost. In recent weeks, Spartan Poker has revamped its tournament schedule with new formats and bigger guarantees. In the cash games, the first-of-its-kind Spartan Bankroll Challenge (SBC), has been on since the past month. Spartan recently made an announcement about the next edition of the SBC exclusively for Omaha players. And let’s not forget the IPC will host its INR 50K Online High Roller tournament, exclusively on SpartanPoker.com which is set to take place on 2 October.

Ideas and Innovations

As mentioned earlier, Spartan Poker has been doing some innovative things which are aimed at developing talent at every level providing players an opportunity to learn from the best and thereby lead to the overall growth of the game in the country. Increased numbers will therefore lead to a bigger impact by Indians on the Asian and global stage.

This was kickstarted with the introduction of the Spartan Bankroll Challenge where players received a bankroll of INR 25K and had 4 weeks to convert that into profits. At the end of the month-long challenge, the players would retain 100% of all profits. As we get into the final week of SBC, Spartan introduced SBC II: PLO which focuses exclusively on the poker variant of Omaha where players now receive a starting roll of INR 50K.

Another India-first tournament is the live/online hybrid event; the IPC 50k Highroller to be first played online where the tournament will be paused at the final table. The finalists will then return to Goa in order to play down to the winner. The online High Roller will take place on 2 Oct and will reach its conclusion in Goa during IPC October edition on 8 October.

The Big Man Speaketh

Team Pro Sangeeth ‘Samoh’ Mohan is quite excited to be part of TheSpartanPoker.com and will look to escalate the action on a daily basis with his own named tournament called ‘Samoh’s Daily’ taking place every afternoon at 3:00pm.

Besides his experience as a player, Mohan has also dabbled on the organisational side of things hosting tournaments like the House of Spew and TILT, both of which took place in Bengaluru. The gentle giant who has recently tied the knot and relocated back to his hometown of Kochi made an announcement on social media, “It gives me great pride to be chosen as the first Spartan Pro and to represent them is an honour,” said Mohan

Elaborating about the new collaboration of TheSpartanPoker.com, he says, “Poker in India has grown exponentially from when I started playing about 5 years ago. The tournaments have increased in frequency and we witnessed the highest footfall in any Indian poker tournament in the recently concluded IPC August ’15. Also there are a number of online poker sites that offer state of the art player experience. Spartan being one of the latest entrants. Speaking of Spartan, it has got some of the best poker business brains in the business.”

In conclusion, Mohan is excited and enthusiastic about this new chapter in his poker career, “Spartan Poker has a great team, high spirits, and the best interest of the game in mind. See you all at the felts, both virtual and real!” While he has been coy about releasing details, Mohan has promised a fantastic new promotion to take place shortly at The Spartan Poker so stay tuned to Gutshot for that update as it happens!
