Sikkim casinos to be shut until 15th April

The novel coronavirus has infected more than 182,400 people worldwide. If you look around, your nearest restaurants, shops, airlines, and factories have shut down as the government of respective states have been pursuing drastic measures to control the pandemic and Asia is still on high alert.

Sikkim’s Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced on Monday that entry of all domestic tourists has been banned from the Himalayan state. He also said that educational institutes, discos, cinema halls, casinos, gym, meals, and tambola will remain shut until 15 April 2020. These measures have been taken to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19 in the state.

Tamang also appealed to the natives to avoid travelling outside the state unless it is an emergency. On 5 March, Sikkim also banned the entry of all foreign tourists by suspending the issuance of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) mandatory for nationals from other countries.

A couple of days back, the state government of Goa announced that all educational institutes, casinos, gyms, spas, pubs, clubs, and theatres will be shut until 31 March 2020, however, restaurants and malls in the state will remain open. The spread of coronavirus in India has forced shut down of various education institutes in Delhi, Karnataka, West Bengal and Maharashtra too.

Sikkim is one of the favourite tourist destinations in India and according to the government data over 1.33 lakhs foreigners visited Sikkim in 2019 while nearly 12 lakh Indians visited the state till September last year. The CM of the state also asked people to take decisions positively as nothing is more important than public health and life. “Sikkim is fortunate to have not a single case of coronavirus, but we should continue to take all precautionary measures,” the chief minister said. The government of Sikkim will also be turning the state tourism guest house at Rangpo into a quarantine centre.

As per the Ministry of Health members, so far, India reported 125 cases of coronavirus out of which 17 are foreigners. 3 in India have died and 13 have recovered from the COVID-19.
