Say hello to Nikita Luther again; leader in WSOP Event #81

A couple of weeks back, we woke up in India to some brilliant news of Delhi’s Nikita Luther finishing runner-up in the WPT500 Las Vegas Main Event. While Luther was unhappy about not taking down the title, we knew what a serious achievement it was, bagging $109k which is India’s biggest cash so far in Las Vegas this year, and also Luther’s personal best.

The Adda52 Pro has been only getting better with time and now, she is back in the headlines, finishing as chip leader after Day 1 of Event #81: $1,500 50th Annual Bracelet Winners Only No-Limit Hold’em. She is one of only two Indian bracelet winners, so we didn’t expect participation from more than those two.

She stormed her way past the 143 players who registered on Day 1 and ending with a booming stack of 538,500 chips, leading 51 survivors on to Day 2. Among the top stacks are massive world poker names like Chris Ferguson and Joe Cada and others, but that doesn’t seem to deter Luther’s concentration.

Just to give you an idea of how well she did on Day 1, there is no one even close to her stack, with the next best being Michael Gagliano’s stack of 354k and no one else passing the 300k mark. Registration stays open for a while on Day 2 so we still don’t know the prize money involved. But we do know that our female pro is gunning for nothing less than a second WSOP gold bracelet.

Day 1 top 10 chip counts:

  1. Nikita Luther – 538,500
  2. Michael Gagliano – 354,000
  3. Yuval Bronshtein – 277,000
  4. Haixia Zhang – 264,500
  5. Blair Hinkle – 259,000
  6. Shankar Pillai – 242,000
  7. Chris Ferguson – 224,500
  8. Ben Ponzio – 224,000
  9. James Mackey – 220,000
  10. Fred Berger – 204,500
