Santhosh Suvarna Wins ₹3.3+ Cr at EPT Barcelona Super High Roller

Santhosh Suvarna is once again in the money. This time, he grabbed part of the prize pool of Event #22 EPT Super High Roller of PokerStars European Poker Tour Barcelona (2024), which is taking place at Casino Barcelona. Suvarna reached the Final Table of the event and finished 5th out of 6 places paid, taking home a whopping €358,000 (~₹3.31 Crore). 

The tournament saw 28 players, who were all ready to cough up the massive €100,000 buy-ins. There were 13 re-entries, and the final field size bulged up to 41 entries, taking the prize pool up to €3,997,820 (₹37 Crore). The event winner eventually was Kayhan Mokri, who shipped the event for the second year in a row. Mokri now has another EPT Super High Roller trophy as his prized possession, along with the prize money of €1,372,420, almost double what he won last year.

EPT Barcelona SHR Final Table Payouts

Six players resumed on Day 3 of this prestigious tournament and Finnish pro Patrik Antonius was the first to bust out on the day, adding €278,400 to his already massive bankroll. Suvarna was the next casualty, ending in 5th place. However, he wouldn’t mind it too much because he started the day with the smallest chip stack. 

With this, Indian poker player Santosh Suvarna adds one more achievement to his name. Santhosh Suvarna is the only name on this list who isn’t a professional poker player. Earlier, Suvarna secured a podium finish at the same tour, a feat he achieved at Event #9, the Pokerstars Cuarto Knockout.

He finished 3rd, following Steve O’Dwyer and Byron Kaverman, who took home prize money worth €163,720 and €107,440. Suvarna took home  €77,900 in a Final Table that had eight players. He’s currently the only Indian who is consistently playing high roller tournaments across the world.

Suvarna also has two WSOP bracelets. He won his first bracelet in November 2023, shipping Event #12 of the WSOP Europe €50,000 Diamond High Roller after defeating Ben Lin, Daniel Dvoress, Chris Brewer, Ioannis Angelou-Kontstas and Martin Kabrhel at the Final Table, taking home a prize of €650,000.

In 2024, Suvarna also placed second at the Kick-Off event of the Super High Roller Bowl Series (SHRB) IX, which was held at the Merit Crystal Cove Hotel and Casino in Cyprus. He made it to the Final Table, ending second only to winner Roman Hrabec, and took home $220,000, while Hrabek shipped the event for $316,000 and a PGT Gold Cup out of a 39-player field.

Suvarna has evolved to become one of the most formidable Indian poker players. He currently tops the All-Time India Money List. He has the best Live Cash of $5,415 152, which he achieved at Event #55 of the 54th World Series of Poker, WSOP 2024, held in Las Vegas.

He won his second WSOP bracelet in June 2024, when he shipped Event #55 of the 2024 WSOP, a $250,000 Super High Roller, and took home the prize money of $5,415,152. He defeated seven other players at the Final Table, including Ben Tollerene, Chris Hunichen, Mathias Elbinger, Charlie Hook, Taylor von Kriegenbergh, Jeremy Ausmus, and Mikita Badziakouski.

Suvarna is one of the few Indian poker players battling it out with the biggest games in the industry, and it remains to be seen which other achievements he has in mind.
