Santhosh Suvarna Rules GPI’s India Rankings at #1

Global Poker Index is one of the few websites that consistently offers poker statistics, and its lists are among the most revered in the industry. As 2024 wrapped up, the Indian ranking list saw a change. In 2024, Santhosh Suvarna toppled Ankit Ahuja from the top spot and is now #1 on the GPI rankings. The list currently includes the who’s who of the Indian poker industry.

Dipanjan Chattopadhyay, who was ranked #23 last year, also rose sharply in rankings, moving to #10 this year.

Santhosh Suvarna has had a great run over the past few years, and 2024 was a stand-out year for him. He won his second WSOP bracelet and his first on American soil at WSOP Las Vegas, shipping the Bracelet Event #55 and taking $5 Million (~₹45.23 Crore), which was also one of the biggest live wins in the past year.

Ankit Ahuja, who topped the list in 2023, saw enough poker action to be on the winning lists a handful of times. He shipped the GUKPT Edinburgh 2024 High Roller and took home £25,200 (~₹26.23 Lakh).

The year-end updates of the list saw some poker players rise up in the ranks, too, like Nishant Sharma, who wowed everyone by becoming a Poker Dream triple crown winner in 2024, a rare feat. Poker Dream 13 had more good news for Sharma, as the Indian poker player shipped the Mystery Bounty Event, too, taking home ~₹49.13 Lakh.

With the poker industry evolving continuously, it remains to be seen how the list will be updated next year.
