Santhosh Suvarna Exits EPT Main Event on Day 4

Santhosh Suvarna has bowed out of the race at the $5,300 EPT Main Event and therefore, for the EPT Championship. After surviving bravely for three days, the Bangalore-based poker player walked away with $31,940 at 21st position. Sixteen players remain in the hunt for the championship at the end of the day’s play. Before Suvarna, Stefan Toderita of Romania was busted with $31,940 and after Suvarna, Artsioum Lasouki got away from the table with $36,740. With this, Georgios Tsouloftas remains at the top of the chip count, with 7,970,000 chips, and behind him is Oliver Weis, with 4,540,000. With Suvarna out of the race at the end of Day 4, who among the players will get the championship this time remains to be seen.

Suvarna’s exit could be a sobering moment for the Indian poker players with the sole Indian being out of the race. Last year, India’s Ankit Ahuja brought the championship home by winning the EPT Eureka Main Event at Cyprus 2023, taking home $362,365 (~₹3,01,45,325). However, this exit doesn’t take away anything from the stellar few months Suvarna has had.  In September this year, he secured an impressive €358,000 at EPT Barcelona Super High Roller, clinching 5th place at the final table of six paid places, whereas Steve O’Dwyer took the top prize of €1,63,720. Also in August, at the Super High Roller Bowl IX (SHRB IX) in Cyprus, he finished 2nd, pocketing $220,000, with Roman Hrabec winning $316,000. In the same month at the SHRB IX held at Cypruss, Suvarna ranked second at the final table, taking $220,000 home. Roman Hrabec, was at the top of the cash list at that event, taking home $316,000.

Suvarna is among the most notable Indian live poker players, with a career spanning several years. Hailing from Bangalore, he made his first significant cash in 2017 during the Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) in Goa, where he earned ₹4,52,000 for a 7th place finish in a High Roller event. In 2023, he claimed his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet by winning the €50K Diamond High Roller at the WSOPE, earning more than $690,000. The following year, in 2024, Suvarna secured his second WSOP bracelet at the $250,000 NLHE Super High Roller in Las Vegas, taking home a massive $5,415,152, his biggest live cash to date.
