EPT Cyprus is ongoing, and the Main Event is now in play. The third day of play has concluded, and the list of survivors is now out—and India’s Santhosh Suvarna has managed to progress to Day 4 along with 44 other players. The total entries for this event were 1,284; as Day 3 wrapped up, 45 have survived creating the list of players who will vie for the top spot for another day.
At the top of the chip count is Bobby James with 2,605,000 chips, and Suvarna, currently at 41st position, has 245,000 chips. Being so low on the survivor’s list, the former WSOP bracelet winner could be looking at a tall order, considering, the difference between Suvarna’s chipstack and Bobby James’ is staggering. However, anything is possible in this game of skill. Here’s hoping Suvarna does the country proud all over again.
The Main Event will crown a new EPT Champion, one of the most prestigious and highly valued titles in the poker world. Last year, Indian-origin Ankit Ahuja won the EPT Eureka Main Event at Cyprus 2023, taking home $362,365 (~₹3,01,45,325). With an Indian name etched in EPT history just last year, it remains to be seen if that feat can be duplicated this year too.

Suvarna has had a headline-worthy couple of years. In September this year, he took home the considerable amount of €358,000 (~₹3.3 Crore) at EPT Barcelona Super High Roller, standing 5th in the final table of six paid places. Kahyan Mokri shipped that event, taking home €1,372,420. In August, he finished at the podium, coming agonisingly close to snagging an EPT trophy, finishing in 3rd place, taking home €77,900 (~₹70 Lakh). Steve O’Dwyer took that event, taking home €1,63,720. In August again, this time in Cyprus, at the SHRB IX, Suvarna ended second at the final table, taking $220,000 home. Roman Hrabec, was at the top of the cash list at that event, taking home $316,000.
Suvarna is one of the most prolific Indian live poker players and has been around for a while. The guy from Bangalore had his first cash-out in a High Roller event at the Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) in Goa in 2017, when he took home ₹4,52,000, finishing seventh. In 2023, he shipped the first World Series of Poker bracelet in the WSOPE 50K Diamond High Roller, taking home upwards of $690,000. In 2024, he snagged his second WSOP bracelet at the WSOP 2024 (Las Vegas), at the $250,000 NLHE Super High Roller, taking home $5,415,152, which still happens to be his best live cash at the time of writing this article.
EPT Cyprus started on 9th October and they have a full stack of events set until 2oth October. The events are bound to create new records and crown new champions, and we will provide you with the latest that happens at the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel Casino & Spa, which hosts the series.
