Sam Greenwood wins PCA $100K SHR; other High Roller results

The PokerStars LIVE is currently hosting the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) and has already declared a few winners, the major win obviously being Spain’s Platinum Pass holder Ramon Colillas winning the coveted PSPC title with an almost zero investment.

PCA $100K Super High Roller

Another one of the high-stakes events in this series’ line-up, the $100K Super High Roller – is in books with Canada’s pro Sam Greenwood shipping it for a colossal $1,775,460 (~INR 12.57 Crores). Cheers and celebrations erupted when he finally lifted the trophy, especially by his two poker pro brothers.

After the Final 5 players were reached yesterday in the $100K SHR, Greenwood was sitting at 4^th with 2,675,000 chips. Talal Shakerchi also made it there at 5^th, his second FT finish in the PCA, first being at PSPC where he cashed at 8^th.

Greenwood showcased some phenomenal poker, eliminating 3 of his 4 opponents. “Everything worked out today, I just had the best hand a lot of times. I think most players, if they had my cards today, would have won,” the calm and modest Greenwood later admitted.

The most critical of his eliminations was when Chris Hunichen Greenwood’s open and Henrik Hecklen’s three-bet. Greenwood shoved his nearly 90 big blinds with pocket Aces and Hunichen was defeated in the hand, having Ace-King.

From there on, Greenwood elimintated Shakerchi (5^th) with another heavy hand, pocket Queens. Shakerchi tried putting up a fight with Jack-Nine but was ultimately eaten by Greenwood’s superior hand. Shakerchi cashed for nearly $1 million here.

Entering heads-up with Hecklen was a merely nominal, as Greenwood already had a massive 10:1 chip lead and finished Hecklen off quite easily to lift the trophy and ship the title. Greenwood later joked, “I still need to get a little more. I came second in Barca, second in Prague, so I need to go for the clean sweep.”

The Barca finish Greenwood talks about here is the 2016 EPT Barcelona SHR in which he won over $1 million in cash prize. He also recently finished 4^th in 2018 Triton Poker SHR Series in Jeju for nearly $1.5 million. He has over $14.5 million in live cashes now and sits 3^rd in Canada’s All Time Money List, after Negreanu and Jonathan Duhamel.

PCA $50K Single-Day High Roller

Of the events that ended a day ago in PCA, the $50K Single-Day High Roller saw Canada’s Timothy Adams being crowned as the champion of the series for $372,508 (~INR 2.63 Crores). He made a deal with British pro Stephen Chidwick in heads-up to bag his title.

The tournament drew 26 entries and created a prize pool of $1,274,130. Only 4 players were going to be paid but the Final Table saw 8 players eyeing for the trophy. The FT featured 2018 GPI Player of the Year Alex Foxen, Justin Bonomo, PokerStars Team Pro Igor Kurganov, Matthias Eibinger and Talal Shakerchi.

Adams has over $10.5 million live cashes making his 7^th in Canada’s All Time Money List. Although he didn’t cross the $1 million mark yet, his best live cash of $995,635 for 3^rd place finish in 2017 Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP) Macau is a respectable one indeed.

PCA $25K Single-Day High Roller II

After just about 11 hours of gameplay in this event, Justin Bonomo shipped the $25K Single-Day High Roller for $383,650 (~INR 2.71 Crores), defeating Spain’s Jesus Cortes in heads-up. Cortes took home $265,200 for his runner-up finish.

The day began with a total of 47 entries for this event that created a prize pool of more than $1.1 million. A lot of players were seen making re-entries till late registration. The eliminations came at neck-break speed and took only four levels after late registration to reach the unofficial Final Table of 9.

Henrik Hecklen and Mikita Badziakouski were eliminated before the money bubble burst. After Badziakouski’s bust at 7^th, the final 6 players were all guaranteed at least $79K. Bonomo first eliminated Peters at 6^th with Sixes over 75s. Sontheimer eliminated Petrangelo at 5^th.

Next to fall was PokerStars Team Pro Igor Kurganov at 4^th place. The 3-handed play had its fair share of ups and downs with Sontheimer seeing multiple double ups. However, he was kicked by Cortes when the latter made a straight on the turn to eliminate the former.

Heads-up chip counts was fairly even but after several death blows by Bonomo, Cortes was left with just 10 big blinds. The final hand saw Bonomo ship the event with the same pocket Sixes which eliminated Peters. The board ran clean for Bonomo and Cortes couldn’t do anything with Queen-five. Bonomo had a phenomenal and historic 2018 with $25 million in tournament cashes and this is a brilliant way to begin 2019 too.
