Sajal Gupta headlines $1.5k PLO Event with 2nd largest stack

It’s not the most popular format in India but that doesn’t mean we can’t play it. We’re talking about Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) and while most Indians at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) take part in traditional Texas Hold’em games, we have a few skilled players excelling in PLO and it’s beginning to show on the global stage too.

Event #40: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha recently completed Day 1 today at Las Vegas and from the original field of 1,216 runners, only 200 will return to the tables tomorrow. Among them are two Indians including Sajal Gupta and India’s first bracelet winner Aditya Sushant. Sushant has bagged an above-average stack of 159k while Gupta has ended as the second largest stack of the day.

Gupta is a well-known player in the Indian circuit with many major online victories and of late, a few cashes across Asia as well. However, today must’ve been one of the biggest days of his poker career as the youngest bagged a monster stack of 512,500 chips, only a few thousand chips behind the Day 1 chip leader, Israel’s Shahar Levi.

Not only is it a major achievement to have ended as one of the chip leaders, but it is also a great matter of pride because of the number of known names and bracelet winners in the field including 2-time winner Keith Lehr, 3-time winner Loren Klein, 4-time winner Mike Matusow, 8-time winner Erik Seidel, and plenty others.

183 players will be paid out in this tournament and we shall reach the money bubble pretty soon on Day 2 at Rio All Suites. Both our Indian players seem set to get the min-cash of $2,248 while Sushant’s bracelet partner Nipun Java is also in the mix, bagging 42,500 chips at the end of day’s play.
