Run It Once to host COVID-19 charity HU tournament

With the unprecedented challenge that the world is facing and communities around the globe affected by the growing COVID-19 pandemic, people have now joined hands to combat the current health crisis. The situation has truly brought together government, organizations from across the industries and sectors to respond to this global outbreak.

Three-time WSOP winner Phil Galfond’s Run It Once Poker site is hosting a charity poker tournament on Saturday, 11 April, starting at 15:00 UTC, running a 32 player heads-up NLHE tournament in an effort to raise money for COVID-19 relief.

In the field, 8 spots will go to those making the highest donations and another 8 spots will be randomly awarded to individuals making donations. You have until 23:59 on Thursday evening UTC to make your donation and give a shot at the heads-up.

The event will be hosted on Run It Once Poker’s testing environments, so the players who are usually restricted, belonging to the US, Italy, Spain and other countries will be able to participate.

Already 16 spots in the tournament have been filled, and they include many prominent names, like Galfond, Jamie Kerstetter, Dan Smith, Sam Greenwood, Luc Greenwood, 2018 WSOP Main Event champ John Cynn, Marle Cordeiro and so on. The winner of the tournament will receive a trophy, access to Poker Masterclass, 3 months of Run It Once Training’s Elite plan and 3 months of Run It Once Training’s Vision GTO Trainer.

Smith has donated millions to charity over the years via his infamous ‘Double Up Drive’, and announced a new charity drive of his own just a few days ago, pledging an incredible $250,000 for those fighting COVID-19. This initiative will raise money for GiveDirectly COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund to support the low-income families in Las Vegas, suffering through the hardships. On top of the funds donated by players, Run It Once Poker will be donating €10 for every player who plays a hand on Run It Once on Saturday, April 11.

The tournament will be broadcasted on the Run It Once Poker Twitch channel and Joe Stapleton, David Tuchman, and Henry Kilbane will handle the event’s commentary.
