Rubin Labroo finishes 2nd in WPT Vietnam Kickoff Event!

World Poker Poker (WPT) recently kicked off their second outing at Vietnam this year and today was the third day of the poker festival that is scheduled between 3-11 September 2019. It has only just begun and it’s proving to be a gala time for Indian players at the series at the Pro Poker Club in Ho Chi Minh.

Just yesterday, we spoke about Gagan Juneja finishing 3rd in the Hyper Turbo Event. Now, we have bigger news coming from the WPT Kickoff Event which began on the first day of the series and had 7 Indians progressing from the total field of 412 entries that had registered over three starting flights.

When Day 2 resumed, there were 51 survivors still in play and all of them were to finish in the money with a min-cash of VND 29 million (~INR 92k). While all of our Indian survivors took home a pay-check, 4 of them reached the Final Table including Akshay NasaRubin LabrooLakshpal Singh and Jaideep Sajwan.

Ashish Munot and Jayjit Ray were the shortest stacked players going into Day 2 and they were the first to head out, followed by Akash Shekhar who unfortunately bubbled the FT. The next to go was Nasa who ended a good run, exiting in 8th place for a cash of VND 160,356,000 (~INR 4.97 Lakh).

The pay jumps increased and so did the intensity as more eliminations took place on the FT. Lakshpal Singh went out in 6th place for a prize of VND 235,268,000 (~INR 7.27 Lakh) while Jaideep Sajwan was the next Indian player to go, hitting the rail in 4th place for a prize of VND 369,267,000 (~INR 11.42 Lakh).

Ironically, Sajwan was eliminated by fellow Indian player Rubin Labroo, who then catapulted to the chip lead among the final three players. Shortly after Sajwan’s elimination, another player hit the rail which took Labroo to heads-up in the Kickoff Event. It was very unfortunate that Labroo had to eventually settle for the runner-up prize, losing AK vs A6 in the final hand.

He has been one of the upcoming online players in India with plenty of victories in the last year or two. However, he came tantalizingly close to winning his first major live title overseas, having won a DPT Kickoff tournament in 2017 as well. He pocketed a career-best live score of VND 862,923,000 (~INR 26.69 Lakh).

On the other hand, the winner turned out to be Vietnam’s very own Le Ngoc Khanh (pictured above) who bagged VND 1.23 Billion (~$53k) as top prize, which turned out to be his best live cash too. The winner bagged 100 points towards the Season XVIII WPT APAC Player of the Year race, while Labroo earned 90 points.

Final Table Results:

  1. Le Ngoc Khanh – VND 1,231,890,000
  2. Rubin Labroo – VND 862,923,000
  3. Huynh Duc Tai – VND 554,860,000
  4. Jaideep Sajwan – VND 369,267,000
  5. Suren Balachandran – VND 284,144,000
  6. Laksh Pal Singh – VND 235,288,000
  7. Nguyen Pham The Quan – VND 197,522,000
  8. Akshay Nasa – VND 160,356,000
  9. Tran Duc Toan – VND 123,189,000

Complete details on the final standings will be updated as and when we get them. Until then, stay tuned to GutshotMagazine.com for more updates from the WPT Vietnam series.
