Just because most of our Indian pros are out in Las Vegas playing the World Series of Poker (WSOP), it doesn’t mean that the online action gets any less exciting. High guarantee tournaments continue to take place every night across several platforms and we’re here to talk about Mega Stack INR 12 Lakh GTD, a tournament hosted every Tuesday night on Spartan Poker.
The latest edition of this tournament was played a couple of nights back on Spartan and with the buy-in set at INR 3,300, the total field went up to 432 entries which broke the advertised guarantee and created a new prize pool of INR 12.96 Lakh. The top performers of the night shared this prize money, with the top 39 players receiving a minimum of INR 8,942 each.
The field turned out to be slightly softer than you would expect in Mega Stack, but the competition heated up towards the end. It was Raman Gujral aka ‘tathagat’ up against Aditya Chaudhary aka ‘S1ckB3at’, with the former outlasting Choudhary to win his first major title on Spartan Poker in a few months.
Being one of the oldest members of the Indian poker community, Gujral is often called the ‘Grandfather of Indian Poker’ and needs absolutely no introduction. Apart from a number of online titles, he also began this year with a massive victory in PCA Bahamas, bagging the biggest live cash of his career.
Coming back to the recent Mega Stack tournament, some of the known names to finish in the money but fall short of the title were Anant Purohit aka ‘Pro’ (32nd), Lakshpal Singh aka ‘LuckyBhai$’ (23rd), Ashish Munot aka ‘Donkey 07’ (20th), Parikshit Dhall aka ‘zapdos1311’ (8th), Manish Lakhotia aka ‘thekid’ (6th), and others.
By the time we had arrived at the final hand of the night, Gujral had accumulated a lead of more than 2:1 over Chaudhary and it was time to deliver the final blow. The flop opened 9c 3s 3h and Chaudhary bet 477k chips with pocket Eights to get a call from Gujral. On the Jh turn, he shoved all-in and Gujral called again, revealing Ks 9d and two pairs – Nines and Threes.
The 2d river card was inconsequential and Gujral won the pot with a pair of Nines and also took home the top prize of INR 2,59,848. On the other hand, Chaudhary had to settle for INR 1,72,756 for finishing second. Until the next edition of Mega Stack on Spartan Poker, stay tuned to GutshotMagazine.com.
