The news of Radhika’s ambitious endeavour didn’t go unnoticed by prominent figures in the Indian poker circuit. Renowned poker pro and commentator Aditya Wadhwani expressed both his appreciation and a hint of longing for the challenge.

“I have always wanted to, but never had the balls to attempt one of these,” he commented, adding,
“Can’t wait. Hit me up if you want some ideas, I’ve been sitting on for doing this.“

Wadhwani’s words underscore the magnitude of Radhika’s challenge and the respect it commands within the community.

As the countdown to the stream begins, we at Gutshot Magazine got in touch with Radhika to hear more about her motivations and preparations for this remarkable endeavour. Here’s a glimpse into her thoughts on this unprecedented undertaking:

Q. This is the first 24-hour poker live stream attempt in India — how does it feel to take on such a massive challenge?

One word — CRAZY! It came to me as an ‘A-Ha! Moment’ a couple of days ago. I immediately picked up the phone and pinged the client at WPT Global and I could almost feel his excitement too, over his text replies.

We both knew we were on to something awesome! Not only is it a never-attempted-before, daunting task, but I feel what might add to the madness is the fact that I’m not your run-of-the-mill twenty something, young healthy, seasoned pro, bachelor boy. But rather, a 48-year-old mother who plays poker mostly thanks to her intense passion for the sport.

Q. What are you most looking forward to during this 24-hour stream — any specific moments or milestones you’re anticipating?

To be honest, I am looking forward to every second of the 24 hours. As far as anticipation goes, of course, my mind has been racing since inception. What if this? What when that?!  To which, I’m constantly reminding myself to just go with the flow! Whatever will be, will be!

Q. Can you walk us through the preparation — mentally, physically, and logistically — that’s gone into making this marathon stream possible?

When I took up this challenge, I was well aware of what it’s going to demand of me, on every front. One can only prepare oneself the best you know how.

On the mental front, chats with myself, lack of expectations, awareness of tilt, acknowledgement of uncertainties.

On the physical front, just making sure I don’t do anything waaay off my usual. No sudden surge of protein and what not, just because I’m going to have to be awake for 24 hours! I am going to make sure I eat properly, stay hydrated and am well rested before we commence.

The logistics, thanks to my brilliant husband, have been looked into as thoroughly as possible. We even did a complete 24-hour ‘dry run’ to make sure there are no technical issues when I am finally live.

Although we couldn’t gather precise information and details on 24-hour streams, the following notable examples highlight the demanding nature of such feats:

1. In December 2023, Hustler Casino Live grabbed attention with its first-ever 24-hour live-streamed poker event. While no single player endured the entire duration, participants like Matt Hanks clocked in an impressive 19 hours. The high-stakes action saw fortunes shift dramatically, with international players experiencing both significant wins and losses.
2. Beyond singular 24-hour events, poker history boasts even more staggering endurance tests. Phil Laak etched his name in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2010 by playing poker non-stop for an astounding 115 hours at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, adhering to break regulations and remarkably avoiding caffeine or stimulants.
3. Canadian player Arlie Shaban also demonstrated remarkable commitment by streaming his online poker sessions on Twitch for 1,000 hours over 125 consecutive days.

These international examples highlight the intense dedication and mental fortitude required for such prolonged poker sessions, setting the stage for Shankar’s ambitious endeavour.
