Puneet Dhawan takes down SSS Warm up Event

The Spartan Super Series (SSS) is now being contested in full swing on The Spartan Poker and yesterday was another successful day – the fourth day of the series so far. It was also the penultimate day of the series and an important tournament that took place on SSS Day 4 was SSS Event #20 Warm-up INR 10 lakh GTD.

The tournament had a buy-in of INR 4,400 and it was literally a warm up to the bigger, much more prestigious Main Event that will be played later tonight. Players all flocked to Spartan for this mega tournament last night and eventually, 292 entries joined the competition, beating the guarantee and inflating the prize pool to INR 12.88 lakh.

By the end of the night, there could only be one winner and last night, it was Puneet Dhawan aka ‘Gro$peLLier’, who shipped the tournament and added INR 2,85,292 to his career online poker winnings. It has been good times for him in online poker of late, having also won the Triple Bubble last month, which is one of Spartan’s featured tournaments.

It was a good effort from Dhawan, who was actually trailing for a major part of the tournament. He staged a comeback and deserved every rupee of his winning prize. When Gutshot contacted the winner, he said, “Winning the SSS Warm up is an awesome experience. I believe I had a lucky run as I was 32/32 players and barely made it to ITM, before I recovered. The poker gods were kind to me for holding my hands at crucial times. Winning from there was so inspiring for myself, being a relatively new poker player. I would like to thank Vinay Choudhry (Dhanraj Seth) for inspiring, guiding and teaching me.”

In heads-up, he faced ‘TripWire’ and this player wouldn’t be too sad either, as he also added a very decent amount of INR 1,92,556 to his poker bankroll, as a reward for finishing second from this field. In the final hand, the board opened 8s Td 2s Qh Ad. TripWire shoved all-in on the river for a pair of Aces, but Dhawan was playing his pocket Tens coolly, having hit a set on the flop itself.
