PSPC 2023: Glen Craigen Making $46,500 Via A Freeroll Is A Dream Come True

The ongoing 2023 edition of the PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC) is going on in full swing, and several players have been making headlines. One such player is Glen Craigen. And why not? He deserves all the recognition and credit. It’s not every day that a player plays a freeroll and not only qualifies for an event but also takes home an impressive $46,500 from it.

Yes, that’s Glen Craigen. PokerNews interviewed Craigen about his remarkable journey at the PSPC 2023 and shared the video on their YouTube channel. So let’s get to know more about this talented player.

Who is Glen Craigen?

Glen Craigen is a road construction worker from Canada. He won a PokerStars Platinum Pass by playing a freeroll event from a field of over 5,000 entries. But guess what! The freeroll was not the only event he won that day. He further shared that he was playing an $80 live tournament. He started playing the freeroll to kill time while playing the live event. He ended up in the top 50 of the $80 tournament, which gave him a $100 ticket. With this $100 ticket, he played another $80 event. Craigen won that event too. It was indeed a winning day for Craigen!

Talking about his profession and how he won the freeroll event, he said that he works as a road construction worker who works six days a week and gets an off only on Sundays. He further shared that on Sunday, 10th July, the fourth qualifier of the PokerStars freeroll was to take place. However, his company had asked him to work on that day. He shared that he works as a roller and has a lot of downtime in between his job because they have to wait till the asphalt has cooled down.

Whenever he was off the roller, he was grinding at the freeroll. While playing, he realized that if he at least got the $1,000 ticket, he could play again when at home with concentration.

He then shared the hand that changed the game in his favour. He said the chip leader, in the big blind position, was the first to act. Craigen realized that at this moment, he had to shove it in with his A7 to steal the blinds. He expressed that he did not want to compete with the chip leader. He just wanted to knock off the other two short stacks. However, the other two folded and the chip leader flipped a A9. 7 showed on the deciding turn and Craigen won the PokerStars Platinum Pass. This hand gave him over 40 big blinds while the rest of the players on the table sat with just five big blinds.

He was so ecstatic about winning that he started screaming with joy, which led to his co-worker and boss coming towards him to ask if everything was alright. In the video, Craigen also shared that he lost his mother just one month before winning the pass.

He further said that in his life, he had just left Canada once before to go to the US, and the PSPC gave him an opportunity to travel to The Bahamas. He felt incredible at the resort and in the sun away from the snow.

Talking about his future plans, he said that now that he had won $46,500, he would quit his job and start playing poker professionally.

He finished 111th on Day 3 from a total of 1,014 entries across the three days. The event paid a min-cash of $35,100 among the top 175 players. Day 3 ended with the top 52 players progressing to the final day.
