Pranav Agarwal Wins APPT Manila 2024 Title; Other Indians Also Run Deep

There’s so much of live poker action taking place across the world right now. Just a couple of days ago, EPT Cyprus came to an end where a handful of Indian players were in attendance including Ankit Ahuja, Apoorva Goel, and Santhosh Suvarna. Now, the focus moves on to other live events like DPT Grand 2024 back home in Goa’s Deltin Royale.

Clashing with this DPT series, however, is the PokerStars APPT Manila Championship 2024 hosted at Okada Manila in the Philippines, and 62 events are lined up on the schedule from 18-27 October 2024. Among the early events, we’ve already seen some Indian successes including a couple of final table finishes and even one title coming home.

In Event 2: Okada Kickoff – ₱10M GTD, we had a couple of deep runs from Indian players where there were 468 entries and 71 of them ended getting paid. Chirag Shah ended his tournament in 16th place for a prize of ₱93,000 (~ ₹1.35 Lakh), while PokerStars India ambassador Siddharth Karia bagged a 6th place finish for a pay-cheque of ₱380,000 (~ ₹5.51 Lakh).

Chirag Shah found himself on the final table of another tournament too, ending in 4th place in Event 4: Knockout Turbo [₱5K Bounty]. Here, he picked up ₱67,000 (~ ₹97,000) in the ₱15,000 buy-in knockout event which only 11 places were paid out. Shah then bagged his third cash of the series in Event 17: Survivor Knockout [₱30K Bounty] ₱1M GTD, where he finished 8th place for another small prize of ₱43,000.

Pranav Agarwal wins India’s first title of APPT Manila Championship

While the biggest cash so far has gone to Karia, the biggest success story for India must be Pranav Agarwal’s title in Event 13: NLH – 20/15/10. The event had a buy-in of ₱25,000 and it attracted 32 entries, taking place on Sunday, 20th October. From this, a prize pool of ₱682,880 was created and 6 players finished in the money.

Agarwal finished on top of this small field and pocketed ₱207,200 (~ ₹3 Lakh) in prize money, which also was his maiden live poker title. Agarwal may not have a very great tournament poker resume yet, but he recently had three cashes at Poker Dream 11 in Aug 2024, including two final table finishes in Bounty Events. We are excited to see more of him in the ongoing APPT Manila Event too.

• 2nd place – Po Hsun Liao – Taiwan – ₱181,800
• 3rd place – Takemi Munakata – Japan – ₱106,000
• 4th place – David Channon – USA – ₱79,000
• 5th place – Rex Clinkscales – USA – ₱61,000

India’s Rishi Karamchandani finished runner-up in Event 23: Knockout Hyper Turbo [₱5K Bounty], for a prize of ₱138,000, so it’s clearly been a great start for the Indian contingent in Manila right now.
