PPL Day 3: Parwal, Arora, Marwaha, Azhar, Desai win titles


After partnering with an NGO named Vidya Integrated development for Youth and Adults (VIDYA), one of the top poker companies of the country PokerBaazi announced PokerBaazi Premier League (PPL) Special Edition. Part of the proceeds of this event will go to the foundation, which will be used for the education of under-privileged children.

The series began on 21st April 2019 and will wrap up by 28th April. Yesterday, Day 3 of the PPL SE saw a total of 5 tournaments being hosted, out of which the biggest was the feature tournament Endeavour won by Kanav Parwal. Here’ a round-up of Day 3:

PPL #11 – SuperStack INR 5 Lakhs GTD

Day 3 began on a humble note on PokerBaazi with an INR 1,100 tournament guaranteeing INR 5 Lakhs in prize pool. Pranav Desai aka ‘GarviGujarat’ won the event, beating 567 total entries in the field. The top 72 players were getting paid out and Desai bagged the biggest amount of INR 1,07,163 as the first-place cash prize. Heads-up saw him beating Rony Chowdhury aka ‘bisadip176’ (INR 75,127).

PPL #12 – Turbo INR 5 Lakhs GTD

Second one for the day was a 5-max tournament played in the Turbo format, with INR 5 Lakhs GTD. The 365 total players in the field whittled down to the eventual winner Vishal Marwaha aka ‘bhai9’ who earned INR 1,53,300 as the first-place cash prize. He defeated ‘A7K9’ in heads-up to secure his victory.

PPL #13 – DeepStack INR 15 Lakhs GTD

The third one on the day began at 7 pm with a good field of 584 entries. The total prize pool accumulated to INR 21,90,000 chipped in by the field. The top 72 players were being paid out of this prize pool and topping the list was Nikhil Arora aka ‘blastupinside’ taking home INR 4,13,910 as first-place cash prize. The FT on PokerBaazi itself must’ve been a tough nut to crack for Arora since it featured Ankit Wadhawan (2nd – INR 2,90,175), Vikranth Varma (3rd – INR 1,86,588), Gaurav Sood aka ‘gaug17’ (4th – INR 1,38,189), Rubin Labroo aka ‘kornkid’ (5th – INR 1,03,587), Jayjit Ray aka ‘england’ (6th – INR 83,001) and Shravan Chhabria aka ‘FishStars’ (8th – INR 55,188).

PPL #14 – Endeavour INR 50 Lakhs GTD

After 2 starting flights of this feature tournament, Endeavour came to an end with the winner being declared yesterday. Last night, 117 players returned for Day 2 of the tournament and after almost 7 hours, Kanav Parwal aka ‘sokopa’ became the winner and took home a fat amount of INR 11,17,789. He beat Nishant Sharma aka ‘nishant177’ in heads-up, a tough opponent indeed. Sharma settled for a cool INR 7,83,297.

Gutshot contacted Parwal and he said, “It’s a surreal feeling to ship a tourney as big as this. I had been making deep runs consistently but wasn’t able to make it count till yesterday, a good time to ship my first feature tourney! I ha a great run in the tournament and getting past that Final Table and the heads-up duel against Nishant [Sharma] was an achievement in itself! Hoping to continue the good run. Shoutout to PokerBaazi for organising such great high-value tourneys! Special mention to ‘dilbaghsingh’ too, you know what you did!

PPL #15 – PLO INR 5 Lakhs GTD

The final tournament of Day 3 was held in the PLO format with an attracted field of 580 entries. The guarantee was crushed by a good margin, bringing the prize pool to INR 7.25 Lakhs. The top 72 places were paid in the tournament. Mohammad Azhar aka ‘chandlerbing’ became the champion of the tournament and earned INR 1,37,025 as the first-place cash prize on PokerBaazi.

He defeated well-known regular Gaurav Sood aka ‘gaug17’ in heads-up who saw the second-place cash prize of INR 96,062 being awarded to him. Sood is also on top of the series leaderboard for now with 3,153 points, thanks to his Bout victory the previous night.
