PokerStars is the world’s leading online poker site. As industry leaders bring in the change in trends in the business industry, PokerStars constantly brings in new innovations and new trends in the poker industry with new, never played before formats or variants of the game. ‘Unfold’ was another variant they launched about six weeks ago after a successful trial run in Denmark on August 1. Other games that very recently launched were Split Hold’em and Showtime Hold’em.
Severin Rasset, Director of Poker Innovation and Operations, in a statement to Pokerfuse, said, “Following a strategic review, we have made the decision to fold ‘Unfold’. PokerStars is invested in creating and testing products and new variants of poker to suit a variety of player tastes. While not every new development will be a home run, we will keep trialling, listening to player feedback and analysing engagement with our goal of continuing to offer fresh promotions, formats and updates that enhance our players’ experience and bring more people to the game.”
Originally stated that Unfold would be removed on Monday, September 10, PokerStars later clarified that a decision had been made to keep it live for a short while longer, likely with plans to remove it the following week. ‘Unfold’ was supposed to be a ‘permanent’ offering by PokerStars according to their initial press release back in the start of the year, which came as a surprise as both the previously launched variants were released as ‘temporary’ and not ‘permanent’. However, the word ‘permanent’ was erased from the press release the very next day.
Now, with ‘Unfold’ being set to be withdrawn, PokerStars has two more formats, yet to be launched, up their sleeve; Fusion and 6+ Hold’em. Fusion, discovered inside the programs directory of PokerStars folder back in May, is clearly going to be a combination of two formats of Poker. The name would justify the argument. 6+ Hold’em or Short Deck Hold’em as some may know it is another interesting variant with it being played as traditional Hold’em but with card from ‘deuces’ through ‘fives’ be removed from the deck.
