Yi Ye wins 2019 PokerStars EPT Sochi Main Event

PokerStars LIVE European Poker Tour (EPT) is one of the most favourite poker tours across the world and another edition recently came to an end in Casino Sochi, Russia. Of course, the Main Event is always the biggest talking point at these events and here too, the RUB 133,000 Main Event received an outstanding response.

879 entries and the advertised guarantee was crushed to create a new prize pool of RUB 103,370,400 which was shared among the top 127 players with a min-cash of RUB 217,000. With plenty of live poker action taking place in India at the moment, only few Indians were spotted in Sochi including Nikita Luther and Anilkumar Singh, both of whom didn’t manage to finish in the money.

While local Russians were plenty in the field, there were quite a few players of other nationalities participating in the festival and when it was time to wrap up the series, it was China’s Yi Ye who emerged victorious, outlasting the field for a massive payout of RUB 19,306,000 (~INR 2.13 Crore).

The 40-year-old had two previous EPT Sochi cashes but this one really took the cake, winning the title after he beat Russia’s Giorgiy Skhulukhiya in heads-up. Six players returned on the final day and it took extremely long for the other five to lose their chip stacks, with Yi Ye emerging as winner as a tiring grind.

Heads-up lasted all but 2 hands. After Skhulukhiya won the first hand, Ye raised 110k from the button in the second hand, Skhulukhiya shoved all-in and Ye didn’t take too long to make the call. Skhulukhiya revealed KQ and Ye showed pocket Sixes. A75 opened on the flop and the 6 on the turn was enough to put Ye ahead, making the 8 on the river a mere formality.
