Top 5 Poker Players that made a mark in 2020


Poker is flourishing by leaps and bounds in the country. All the live events were replaced with virtual ones. Some players were shining bright while some did not make a cut. Here’s a list of the top five players that played exceedingly well in 2020 and have created a special place for themselves in the industry.

Gaurav Sood

Gaurav Sood is one of the top performing players in India currently. The 24-year-old Sood holds a BDS degree and has been playing poker since 2013. Sood’s all time earnings are around INR 4. 51 Crores. His highest win in 2020 was in #BPTO Day 2 MAIN EVENT 1 Crore GTD, where he cashed out with a whopping INR 18.61 lakh. He won Spartan Poker’s #14-The Millionaire United Day 2 (1 Crore) series, where he has crowned the winner and Sood took home INR 17.75 Lakhs.

Arsh Grover

Arsh Grover’s poker winning’s graph has been on a steady rise since the time he began playing. His overall winnings are around INR 4 Crores. Grover’s largest online score so far has been around INR 27.94 lakhs.
His largest cash outs have mainly been on Spartan Poker and Adda52. Grover won the SSS series on Spartan Poker and took home INR 14.94 Lakhs. Post that, he played the Adda52 60L Grand Mega Suits Finale and won INR 12.75 Lakhs.

Grover who finishes in the money most of the times also won the PPL#29 The Vegas (40 LAC GTD) (RE) on PokerBaazi. He took home INR 7.72 Lakhs. Grover is also into teaching poker and is a well established MTT coach. Grover is the first poker player to live stream MMT on Twitch in India. Ashish Ahuja

Ashish Ahuja is a lawyer turned poker player from Chandigarh. He is well known as an MTT crusher as he is one of the top MTT players in India currently. Ahuja was introduced to the game by a friend when he was on a vacation in Sydney. Ahuja’s total earnings are around INR 3. 38 Crores as of 2020.

Ashish Ahuja’s largest online score until now is INR 11.69 Lakhs. His top three online winnings are on Spartan Poker. He won IOPC #62 – The Elite (60 Lacs GTD) and that’s where he took home his largest online score. Post that he finished third in the SSS – The Millionaire – Day 2 (1.5 Cr GTD) and took a whopping INR 11.55 Lakhs home.

Sumit Sapra

Sumit Sapra hails from Delhi and is one of the well-known poker players in India. Sapra won against former PokerStars Team pro Randy Lew after he won the Flipout tournament at the 2018 APPT Korea in April. Sapra is also the first Indian poker player who secured a Platinum Pass to the 2019 PokerStars Players NLHE Championship (PSPC). Sapra’s total winnings till now are around INR 3.29 Crores.

His largest online score until now is INR 32.20 Lakhs that he won on Spartan Poker’s IOPC #120 – Main Event – The Crown Day 2 (3 Crores GTD). His next six consecutive wins were also on Spartan Poker.

Srihari Bang

This 21-year-old poker player from Vijayawada has been turning heads since the time he began grinding for the first time. Within a few years time Bang has made a mark in the industry and his total winnings so far are INR 3.17 Crores.

Bang’s largest online score until now is INR 48.56 Lakhs. Bang consecutively finished three times in the money on Adda52. He won the 2.5Cr AOPS ME Finale, followed by Full House Finale and the 3Cr AOPS ME Finale with a prize pool of INR 27.50 Lakhs, 25 Lakhs, and 9 lakhs respectively.

Poker players have not left any stone unturned during the pandemic. These online scores clearly indicate that virtual tournaments are on a rise and will surely continue even if live tournaments are back on track.
