Spartan’s IOPC 2020 prizepool surpasses Euro online events

A few days ago, the India Poker Championship wrapped up in Goa where INR 6+ Crore was given away in prizes across 5 days and Rubin Labroo was crowned the 2020 India Poker Champion. In India, the live and online circuits are growing simultaneously and with the IPC done, it’s now time for some funs at the virtual felts.

Starting tomorrow, Spartan Poker will be hosting yet another edition of the India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) which is all set to break Indian online poker records. The 10th edition of the IOPC is set to give away a whopping INR 16+ Crore in guaranteed prizes between 24th Jan – 9th Feb 2020!

No other online platform in India has come near such massive prizes and in fact, the IOPC is creating waves on a global level as well. While Spartan Poker doesn’t have nearly as many daily visitors as seen in European online operators 888poker and Unibet Poker, they’re really cranking it up in terms of prize money on offer.

When we talk about the Indian poker industry, we’re clearly behind western countries in terms of both traffic as well as revenue. However, India has a population of over a billion and the potential is huge, and Spartan is clearly investing in the future of online poker in India.

Spartan is hosting IOPC at a similar time that European operators 888poker, Unibet Poker and MPN are hosting their own online series. 888’s XL series comes with a $1.4 million prize pool while MPN’s final installment of Universal Championship of Poker (UCOP) is giving away $555,000 and Unibet’s Online Series VII offers a guarantee of $445,000. Spartan’s IOPC Main Event itself comes with an INR 3 Crore guarantee which is around $422k while the overall series guarantee is INR 16 Crore which equals around $2.25 million!

The numbers say it all and the IOPC only keeps growing in India, being hosted twice a year currently. The last edition hosted in July 2019 came with an INR 11 Crore guarantee and the one before that in Jan 2019 promised INR 8.5 Crore in prizes. While we’re still fairly behind the rest of the world, IOPC is paving the way for the Indian market, being an impetus to this constantly growing industry.

“The overwhelming response from players across the country for previous editions encourage us to constantly invest in superior player experience and keep bringing exciting gaming options to our customers,” said Amin Rozani, Co-founder and CEO of Spartan Poker. When asked about these rising guarantees, he said, “Spartan has always been a tournament-friendly website and we’ve always aimed at providing maximum value to our players whenever we host a flagship series like IOPC, SSS and others. We hope to keep raising the bar in coming months and years.”

We’re now one day away from the start of the series and players have been preparing since weeks, because of the gigantic prizes on offer. Never before has an Indian online operator offered an INR 3 Crore GTD Main Event, while the INR 110k Super High Roller is the highest ever buy-in for a single online tournament in the country.

Records are meant to be broken and Spartan Poker has sent the records tumbling with this ambitious poker series that begins tomorrow. As Indian online poker prize pools start to beat those being offered in Europe and other parts of the world, 2020 is set to be the best year for poker in our country so far!
