Rayhaan Adam wins APT Vietnam Kickoff ME; Sapra finishes 6th

A crazy night at the Pro Poker Club hosting the 2020 Asian Poker Tour (APT) Vietnam Kickoff and crowning the newest VND 20,000,000 Main Event champion! It took 225 hands out of which 72 of them being heads-up until the champion emerged. The winner tightened up at the final table, shooting straight from short stacks to become the ultimate title holder, South Africa’s Rayhaan Adam has proved himself by crushing the jaw-dropping VND 8 billion GTD Main Event after railing out Malta’s Brandon Mifsud in heads-up!

The star-studded APT Kickoff Main Event pulled out 365 entries out of which only the top 37 finished in the money. However, VND 7,760,000 was well-reserved for the latest winner. It was Day 3 chip leader Adam who lead the final 8 players to conquer the table after building a towering 7-figure stack of 2.69 million.

The final table saw the first casualty Hong Kong’s Ho Yin Shek who shoved with 10s 8s and lost to Mifsud’s Ah Ac. After 35 hands, Hwang Sang Yeon shoved with 6d 6h but Francis Garson held Qs Qh to send him out in the 7th place.

The sole Indian contender on FT was Sumit Sapra who had quite a rollercoaster day, having managed to double up a couple of times, on the 84th hand, he was railed out by Yuwen Pan. On a flop of 6d 9s 6h, Pan shoved with 8c 8s and short stacked Sapra called with As Qc with no help in turn 4h and 3s river, slipped out at 6th place boosting his bankroll with VND 334,530,000 (~INR 10.23 Lakhs). Sapra was also found in the final table of 2019 APL Danang Main Event where he finished 5th for INR 14.74 Lakhs. He was last seen finishing 19th the 2020 Red Dragon Poker Challenge.

After continuous eliminations, and Garson being eliminated at 3rd place the heads-up got underway. The intense race began and at hand 50, Mifsud went up 8:1 on a double up with Ks Kh to Adam’s Ah 2c. but Adam remained stern, he won two double-ups and returned to his position. Ultimately, on flop Qc Jc 5h, Adam check-raised followed by Mifsud’s three-bet jammed with Kh Qs and Adam called with Qh Jd. Turn 4c proved no help for either player and that’s when Adam rivered a full house with Qd, thus sending Mifsud towards the pay desk. The champion seized the APT Championship Poker Guardian Trophy, APT Championship Ring, and a handsome VND 1,731,440,000 (~INR 52.98 Lakhs).

Final table payouts:

  1. Rayhaan Adam – VND 1,731,440,000
  2. Brandon Mifsud – VND 1,154,300,000
  3. Francis Garson – VND 802,450,000
  4. Tuan – Vietnam – VND 579,590,000
  5. Yuwen Pan – China – VND 433,440,000
  6. Sumit Sapra – India – VND 334,530,000
  7. Hwang Sang Yeon – VND 265,650,000
  8. Ho Yin Shek – VND 216,430,000

The champion, Adam said, “I brought a bag for the money because I knew I was going to win it! I play online every night so winning doesn’t feel any different but it’s just good to win it with players I’ve never played before. That’s the exciting part. And it was much tougher than I thought, much tougher than at WPT because there I knew all those players very well.” Keep reading GutshotMagazine.com for timely APT Vietnam Kickoff updates, results as well as general poker news from around the world.
