The 2021 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online resumed on Sunday with Event #18: $1,000 NLH North American Open, which drew 524 competitors and 232 rebuys. A 756-entry field created the $692,000 prize pool, and James “Danfriel” Gilbert emerged triumphant after nearly 11 hours of play to take home the top prize of $137,570 and his first gold bracelet.
According to The Hendon Mob, Gilbert was a WSOP Circuit ring winner with over $2.1 million in live event earnings after defeating wunderkind Landon “ActionDealer” Tice in heads-up play. Final Poker Table Action
Daniel “st0neydanza” Dagostino became the first final poker table victim after losing a flip with ace-king against the pocket jacks of Brett “furofakind” Shaffer. Shaffer flopped top pair with queen-jack just after the Big Slick of “DLAZ14” went down in flames.
Gilbert was busted at that moment, removed William “swaggyb” Corvino in seventh place after winning a race with ace-jack against pocket eights and eliminating “tennispro75” by winning another flip ten holding against ace-jack.
Gilbert maintained his lead when he rivered with an ace with ace-five against two-time bracelet winner and WPT pundit Tony “Panoramic” Dunst who had pocket nines. With only four players left, Gilbert had a big lead, Tice was second in chips, and Felix “madenspauwke” Vandeput and Shaffer were the two extreme short stacks.
Gilbert went on to eliminate them in back-to-back hands, giving him a chip advantage of more than 4:1 as he dove into heads-up play. Tice battled tooth and nail, but Gilbert’s lead was too big to overcome. Tice eventually got it in with king-eight, but he fell short against Gilbert’s king-ten.
