IOPC Day 1: Abhishek Goindi Ruled The Online Felts After Nailing Sunday Prime

The much-awaited India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) started in full swing yesterday. Six tournaments took place on Day 1, several newbies, as well as established players, made their mark on the poker felts. At the end of Day 1, Abhishek Goindi sits on top of the leaderboard as he shipped the Sunday Prime tournament and had a deep run in IOPC #3. Another pro player who had a good run last night in the Launch Party as well as the Dream Catcher tournament was Siddhanth Kapoor. While Kapoor made it in the money, he did not ship any of the events.

IOPC #1 – Launch Party – ₹12 Lakh GTD

The first event in the highly-anticipated IOPC July 2021 event was IOPC #1 Launch Party which was shipped by Suraj N Yadav aka ‘MR.BEAST’ who clinched the top spot. The winner battled a massive 2,562 entries and cashed ₹1,71,657 in prize money. The top 215 players in this tournament were paid a min-cash of ₹1,575.

The initial guarantee of the tournament was ₹12 Lakh but it was surpassed by a tin margin and the final prize pool stood at ₹12,81,000.

IOPC #2 – Sunday Prime – ₹60 Lakh GTD

The second tournament in the IOPC series was the ₹60 Lakh Sunday Prime tournament. This ₹11,000 buy-in event had 571 entries in total. This tournament was a deal between poker coach Abhishek Goindi aka ‘MambaMentality’ and Avinit Bagri ‘pushnpray17.’ Goindi fired two bullets and cashed ₹8,18,874 while Bagri made ₹8,11,791 in prize money and clinched the runner-up spot. The top 55 players in this tournament were paid a min-cash of ₹29,400.

Talking about his victory, the poker coach said, “I was zoned in and just wanted to play good poker! I wanted to play every spot correctly and didn’t really focus on anything else! I tried to stay in the moment and not get too ahead of myself! Topping the leaderboard right now doesn’t really count for much as there are 3 weeks of play left! I don’t know how many events I’m going to be playing but I’m just going to go out there and have fun.”

Players who made it in the money in this tournament were Gaurav Sood (30th, ₹41,400), Arsh Grover (37th, ₹35,400), Bhanu Prakash (39th, ₹35,400). 

Other notable players who could not make it in the money were Vinayak Bajaj (64th), Alok Birewar (65th), Sahil Mahboobani (73rd), Vishnu Khandelwal with three entries (81st), Laksh Pal Singh (84th), Ashutosh Balodhi (89th), Rohan Bhasin with two entries (99th), Ankit Bajaj (101st), Nitin Arora (113th), Vivek Singh fired two bullets (117th), Goonjan Mall (118th), Kunal Patni fired two bullets (119th), Mohit Mehta (120th), Shardul Parthasarathi (125th) Anirban Das (131st), Arjanveer Singh Chadha (135th), Siddhanth Kripalani (136th), WSOP bracelet winner Kartik Ved (140th), Raghav Bansal (142nd), Guruprasad Gupta (143rd), Dhirendra Kumar fired two bullets (151st), Sanish Chhabra (153rd) among others.

IOPC #3 – Sunday Spotlight – ₹10 Lakh GTD

Nitin Arora aka ‘Demogorgon’ shipped the third IOPC tournament yesterday. This tourney had 628 entries in total and Arora traversed to top and made ₹3,65,496 in prize money. The online reg was followed by Vishal Bajaj aka ‘CrownUpJr’ who cashed ₹2,31,732 in prize money.

The advertised guarantee of the ₹3,300 buy-in tournament was crushed with a huge margin and a new prize pool of ₹18,84,000 was formed. The tournament had 628 entries in total and the top 55 players were paid a min-cash of ₹9,231.

Players who made it in Vishnu Khandelwal (36th, ₹11,115), Laksh Pal Singh (46th, ₹9,231), Ratul Steves (48th, ₹9,231), Kunal Patni (53rd, ₹9,231), Rohan Bhasin (55th, ₹9,231) among others. Dhiraj Lakhotia aka ‘supernuts’ was the bubble boy in this tournament. 

Goonjan Mall (110th), Vinayak Bajaj (112th), Arjanveer Singh Chadha fired two bullets (113th), Sanket Arora with five entries (116th), Vivek Singh (120th), Mohit Mehta (130th), Siddhanth Kripalani (131st), Dhirendra Kumar, Myron Pereria fired two bullets (150th) but could not make it in the money.

IOPC #4 – Blaze Of Glory – Day 2 (1 Crore GTD)

The Blaze of Glory tournament was a featured event that started at 10 PM last night and went on for 11 hours. The tournament was paused at the 23rd level and at that time the following players were on the final table.

Ashwin Vijay aka ‘A116,’ Advait Rajguru aka ‘GTfO18,’ Siddharth Karia aka ‘Ari Tribbiani’ ‘Heartbrrkr,’ Harshad Barve aka ‘Omglukbox,’ Guneet Kwatra aka ‘GeeKay,’ Shardul Parthasarathi aka ‘Faucet Failure,’ and Sachin Sharma aka ‘Ullumanati.’ The live stream will resume at 6 PM today.

 IOPC #5 – Dream Catcher – ₹12 Lakh GTD

The Dream Catcher tournament had an advertised guarantee of ₹12 Lakh but it was crushed and the final prize pool stood at ₹18,07,200. The tournament had 311 entries in total and it was shipped by Haider Madraswala aka ‘Callmebabe.’ Madraswala cashed ₹2,98,730 in prize money. All the top players were paid a min-cash which was ₹1,536. 

Players Vinayak Bajaj fired two bullets (27th, ₹80,230), Guruprasad Gupta (39th, ₹5,801), Ankit Wadhawan, Shardul Parthasarthi, Ankit Bajaj, (146th) among others made it in the money.

IOPC #6 – ₹7 Lakh GTD

The IOPC #6 tournament started at 11 PM last night and went on till 6 AM. This tournament was won by Deepesh Raka aka ‘prince1993’ who took home an impressive prize money of ₹1,99,111. This tournament had 686 entries in total and the top 63 players were paid a min-cash of ₹4,476. The advertised guarantee of this event was ₹7 Lakh but it was surpassed and the final prize pool stood at ₹10,29,000.

Ashish Ahuja (22nd, ₹8,540), Kunal Patni (30th, ₹6,482), Arsh Grover (37th, ₹5,453), Vivek Singh, Siddhanth Kapoor, Nitin Arora, Guruprasad Gupta, Rohan Bhasin, Goonjan Mall (134th), Sahil Mahboobani (145th), Anant Purohit with two entries (148th), Suraj Yadav who shipped the launch party fired three bullets (147th), Pranav Bang (107th), Ankit Wadhawan (124th) among others.
