Feb DPT crowns first winner – Nikita Luther

It had to be her. Adda52 Pro Nikita Luther, one of India’s leading female poker professionals and also the country’s first female to win a WSOP bracelet in Las Vegas, has gone on to ship her maiden DPT title as well. After a brilliant 2018, Luther begins 2019 by shipping the opening event at February’s DPT in Goa, after a flurry of bust outs by her on the Final Table.

FULL STORY: 7th February was the first day of the February 2019 edition of the Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT), played as usual, on board the elegant Deltin Royale in Goa. To kick start proceedings in the waters of River Mandovi, the series began with the INR 15k Deep Dive tournament, where 187 entries boiled down to the Final Table of 9 players at the end of Day 1.

Leading this table was Ankit Kapoor, followed by the bracelet winner, Nikita Luther, and both these two would’ve been wanting to keep up the good work on Day 2. And why not? There was the incentive of winning the top prize of INR 6,80,000 and also being crowned a DPT champion.

Play resumed at 2pm yesterday and it wasn’t too long before the eliminations began. The one behind all of these eliminations was Luther, displaying some strong woman power on the FT, responsible for most of the early eliminations that took place today. The first to go was the shortest stacked Ashraf Ali, who ended 9th for INR 75,000.

The next to go was Godfather 5.0 Aussie Millions package winner Alok Ranjan, whose pocket Queens lost to Luther’s AT, after the board rolled out 10c 10h 6d 5h 3d and the latter completed trips. Ranjan exited in 8th place and had to settle for INR 1,00,000, shortly before Rubin Labroo was also sent to the rail by Luther.

Labroo opened UTG 45k with AK, while Luther defended with K6 clubs. The board rolled out Kh 5s Qh 9d 6h and Luther shoved all-in on the river, only to get a call from Labroo, who lost King pair to Kings and Sixes. Luther received yet another double up as Labroo busted in 7th for INR 1,25,000.

Hidangmayum Somesh was the next to go, busted by Arjun Agrawal’s full house, taking away 6th place and a prize of INR 1,55,000. Soon later, Luther was back in the action, this time sending Agrawal out, when her straight beat his Ks Qc in a pre-flop all-in. He took away INR 1,85,000 for finishing 5th.

Shreyaba Pandey was the next to exit the tournament, and the person to execute the bust was Parikshit Dhall, who was more or less silent on the FT until now. A pre-flop all-in with Pandey having a short stack and 8s 9c saw Dhall’s pocket Fives completing a set and sending Pandey out in 4th place for INR 2,30,000.

The competition was heating up now as bigger prizes were on the way. Day 1 chip leader Ankit Kapoor on SB raised to 145k with As 2s and Luther shoved all-in with Ac 9s, only to get the call from Kapoor. The 7c 5h Jh Qc Jd board fired blanks for both and Luther won with Jacks and higher kicker, sending Kapoor out in 3rd place for INR 2,90,000, in Level 24 of the tournament, by when the blinds had reached 30k-60k, along with a BB Ante of 60k.

Heads-up now between Luther and Parikshit Dhall, with the female pro having accumulated a massive stack. She sent so many to the rail during this tournament and it wasn’t long before her Kd Js beat Dhall’s Js 9h in the final hand of the event, eliminating Dhall out in 2nd place for a prize of INR 4,55,000.

Luther has time and again proved how she is one of the best in this male-dominated sport and has proved to be an inspiration to many aspiring female poker pros in India. She took away the top prize of INR 6,80,000 and was crowned the Feb 2019 NLH Deep-Dive champion, as she struck a cute pose with the trophy.

Simultaneously, the INR 65k High Roller kicked off in Deltin Royale, while Day 1A of the DPT Main Event also began yesterday, so stay tuned to GutshotMagazine.com for all updates.
