Biden’s win in election could be favourable for US online poker

It’s the day for the US elections results and this could be the last time we see businessmen, students, gamers, poker players, meme creators etc rattle their minds because of Trump. In the broader sense, poker players have been eagerly waiting to know the results as that could pave the way for the poker industry to flourish in the country.

The Trump administration had also recently re-interpreted the Wire Act. This means that if Trump is re-elected, the position of online poker in the US will be put under a spot again. The Act seeks to criminalize all other forms of interstate gaming, including online poker.

The Interstate Wire Act of 1961 is a United States federal law reads as follows:

Whoever being engaged in the business of betting or wagering knowingly uses a wire communication facility for the transmission in interstate or foreign commerce of bets or wagers or information assisting in the placing of bets or wagers on any sporting event or contest, or for the transmission of a wire communication which entitles the recipient to receive money or credit as a result of bets or wagers, or for information assisting in the placing of bets, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.

If Joe Biden wins it could end up being more beneficial to online poker operators and players in America. In a visit to Las Vegas in December 2019, Biden’s camp implied that the gaming industry should be allowed to operate without any unnecessary restrictions.

Joe Biden served as US Vice President during the Obama administration from 2009 to 2017. The former US Vice President also previously said he would reverse the Trump government’s Wire Act opinion and will uphold the court’s ruling. That declaration had opened up a whole new chapter for online gaming in the US and this resulted in a number of states (Nevada, New Jersey) launching rules for their respective markets.

Reality Check

On the whole, we cannot be certain if Biden would prioritize online poker and online gaming in general if he wins the election, but there still seems to be alot of more optimism from his side. Biden was among the few politicians in the US who had expressed his opposition to the Trump administration’s reversal of the Wire Act interpretation in 2018.

According to iGaming industry experts that have been looking into the legalization of online gambling includes that online poker is still highly unlikely even if Biden replaces Trump. To know more about gambling laws in the US and across the globe, keep reading GutshotMagazine.com
