5 Weird Poker Cheating Techniques

Poker is an interesting game and it is all fun when you play the game online or offline. Players often get carried away while playing online games but with online games, there are high chances of getting cheated. In order to save you from digital demons, let’s first look at the pros and cons of playing poker online.

One of the pros of playing online poker is that you can play from the comfort of your home. Players can avail several bonuses and try their hand at variants. The cons are mainly that if you are a newbie, you may find it difficult to keep up with the pace of online poker. There are also possibilities of getting cheated in online poker. Here are five ways in which cheating takes place.

Collusion

The term collusion basically means that two or more players employ a strategy and act secretive. In a poker tournament, when one player chooses to go all in and the other two are still playing, it is common for players to coordinate and play. By doing so the players opt for a deal. Colluding can be very challenging too and players usually do this when they’re on a higher limit table. Other than this, there is also implicit colluding which means two players team up to force the third one, with a small stack to be eliminated.

Ghosting

Ghosting refers to giving or taking advice while the game is on. In online or live poker, it is when a player takes advice on how to play the game. In online tournaments, it can be difficult to avoid this but in live poker tournaments, ghosting is strictly prohibited.

Poker Bots

Poker bots refer to computer programs that play poker. This game involves mathematical decisions hence bots have the ability to make decisions. Bots are not the perfect opponents to play against at a poker table as they have the chance to reduce your winnings considerably. It is not very easy for players to identify if bots are being used in the game. One can identify this when players engage with the game for long hours and that too without any breaks at all. Other than that, one can also identify if a bot is being used when a single player plays multiple times.

Multi-Account gameplay

This is a very common way of cheating. Some players create more than one real-money account at a single poker site. This gives players the chance to pose as different players to increase their chances of winning during a single game.

Viewing Hole Cards

In online games, the online platform only displays your hole cards while the cards of opponents will not be revealed. Though this is a foolproof technique, in 2007 there was a scandal where an employee had a super-user account and he used it to access the server of a Sit N’ Go to see the hole cards of all the players. Although this incident came to light later, a cheating method like this can be used in online poker. But these days poker sites are very secure and instances such as these are rare occurrences.
