Poker Scene In South Korea

Although poker in Korea is a recent trend, it has been growing at a rapid pace. One of the most popular poker variants in Korea is Badugi, which has been played since the 1970s.

There are limited casinos in Korea, approximately around 20. Most of these are located inside hotel complexes that primarily cater to tourists. This is because only foreigners are allowed to play in casinos in Korea.

Incheon Olympus Hotel Casino was the first legal casino to open in the country. Interestingly almost half of the casinos in Korea are located on the island of Jeju. This is mainly because the island has the advantage of being an exotic location that attracts tourists. Particularly, there are two main cities that are the prime spots for casinos, namely Jeju and Seogwipo.

However, over the years, the scene has considerably grown. This has led to more casino activities actively happening in the country for tourists.

Live Poker Scene In South Korea

In the last few years, several poker tours and series have started hosting live events in Korea, including Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT), Asian Poker Tour (APT), World Poker Tour (WPT) and even Triton Poker Series. Here are some of the most famous poker venues in South Korea:

Paradise City Casino

Paradise City has several poker tables featuring variants like NL Texas Hold’em and Progressive Hold’em. It also offers cash games as well as poker tournaments. The Paradise City Casino is known for being one of the stops of the APPT.

The APT is also all set to make a stop at this casino located in Incheon city of South Korea, between 25th August to 3rd September 2023.

Jeju Shinhwa Poker Club

The Jeju Shinhwa Poker Club is located inside the Jeju Shinhwa World. The poker room can be found near D’Bar inside the property and features eight poker tables that offer a variety of poker variations, including Texas Hold’em and poker tournaments.

Daegu Casino Poker Room

Daegu Casino Poker Room is a part of the Hotel Inter-Burgo Daegu Casino. While other casinos are available 24/7, The Daegu Casino Poker Room is only open from 3 PM to 5 AM daily. It offers poker tournaments and cash games for the players.
