Phil Hellmuth wins record 15th gold bracelet

He is known for his temperamental personality, and that’s why he’s popularly called the ‘Poker Brat’. However, Phil Hellmuth Jr. is better known for being one of the best poker players in the world, with a record number of WSOP gold bracelets over the course of his live poker career.

The 53-year old is one of the most experienced players going around the world, with a career spanning over 30 years and his first WSOP bracelet coming way back in 1989, when he won the WSOP Main Event for $755,000. He came into the 2018 WSOP with 14 career gold bracelets and just a few days before the series could end, he has picked up another bracelet to add to his tally.

Just a while back, Hellmuth further improved on his bracelet lead over the rest, shipping Event #71: $5,000 NLHE (30-minute levels) and bagging a record 15th career gold bracelet – something no one else in the world has achieved. He beat 2-time bracelet winner Steven Wolansky in heads-up, where his set of threes beat Wolansky’s pair of nines in the final hand.

The top 5 all-time bracelet winners list:

  • Phil Hellmuth – 14 bracelets
  • Phil Ivey – 10 bracelets
  • Johnny Chan – 10 bracelets
  • Doyle Brunson – 10 bracelets
  • Johnny Moss – 9 bracelets

His only competition in this list is Phil Ivey, who hasn’t improved on his bracelet tally this year. In this latest win, Hellmuth walked away with a massive prize of $485,082 and took his career live tournament winnings past $22.5 million. This would’ve been a special one for him as his last bracelet came in 2015.

Final table results:

  1. Phil Hellmuth – $485,082 (~INR 3.3 crore)
  2. Steven Wolansky – $299,807
  3. Alan Sternberg – $204,789
  4. Aliaksei Boika – $142,458
  5. Ken Fishman – $100,956
  6. Matt Glantz – $72,911
  7. Paul Hoefer – $53,682
  8. Ralph Wong – $40,309
