Phil Galfond’s deficit cut to €154k in Galfond Challenge

The Galfond Challenge has truly been one adventure. A month ago, everyone thought that Run It Once Poker founder Phil Galfond was about to lose €1 million against his mystery challenger ‘VeniVidi1993’. The loss had a major impact on Galfond who got run down and knocked out.

In their first 15 days, ‘VeniVidi1993’ ran over him too hard that Galfond required a few days off the streets of €100/€200 Pot-Limit Omaha. After his return, Galfond managed to break even and this could be considered as one of the greatest and craziest comebacks in the poker history.

The Galfond Challenge was back in action on Saturday, with Phil Galfond and ‘VeniVidi1993’ battling on Run It Once Poker. After ‘VeniVidi1993’ booked a winning session on Friday, Galfond scored the victory on Saturday.

After 28 session, ‘VeniVidi1993’ was up €318k, on Day 29 Galfond profited over €85k as they passed 18,000-hands. And his opponent’s win slipped to €233k. On Day 30 of the challenge, Galfond again lost €27k and on Day 31, both players battled almost 420 hands and Galfond booked another six-figure score, banking over 106k with nearly 20k hands in the books by now. Galfond stormed back to be stuck at €154k. However, his opponent’s massive lead shrank from €900,000 through 19k hands.

Galfond and ‘VeniVidi1993’ were originally scheduled to resume their play on Monday, 30 March, following a day off, but according to social media posts by Galfond, his opponent has decided to take the next two sessions off. That means the heads-up challenge will resume on Thursday, 2 April.

It will be the 32nd session between the two and they’re 19,363 hands through their Galfond Challenge duel. That means just 5,637 hands to go. Remember, Galfond is putting up €200,000 in side action to the €100,000 of ‘VeniVidi1993.’
