Phil Galfond booked another win in the heads-up challenge!

While most of the world is in a lockdown state, the poker fans have turned towards online entertainment. More than 5k viewers watching Phil Galfond continue his improbable comeback against the venerable challenger ‘VeniVidi1993’ with now narrowing the gap! Galfond the founder of Run It Once Poker is on the verge of the biggest comeback in the poker history, pulling back his Pot-Limit Omaha Challenge, suffering an almost €1 million loss which was clearly not a pretty sight at all.

In an almost emotional post on Twitter, he explained of the rising disaster, “I was playing scared. I was expecting to lose. I simply couldn’t get my brain to work properly. The most difficult thing about an extended downswing isn’t the loss of money — it’s the loss of hope.”

Galfond took a lengthy timeout although he even considered throwing in the towel. The PLO legend took a break to regroup his mind, which appears to have been a smart decision. He also paid €3k per day penalty, to consider his options, and paying out a €200,000 sidebet. He continued and watched the gap rise and hope fade, or somehow find a way to raise his game and limit the losses. And eventually, Galfond pounced back on the field and proved his A-game!

On Saturday, Phil Galfond and ‘VeniVidi1993’ came back again for another 680 hands of €100-200 PLO, pushing their 25,000-hand Challenge to 21,339 hands complete so far. The latest session went Galfond’s way, as he booked a €28,722 win. ‘VeniVidi1993’ still leads overall, up by €40,422.

The Galfond Challenge between Galfond and ‘VeniVidi1993’ has 3,661 hands left, so only a handful of sessions will be played out between both the players. Should Galfond come out on top, he’ll win an additional €100,000 side bet from ‘VeniVidi1993.’ Should ‘VeniVidi1993’ be victorious over the 25,000 hands, he’ll score an additional €200,000 from Galfond. Both players will return back for more action of PLO today, 6 April and you all can watch the next session live on Twitch and also keep reading GutshotMagazine.com and stay tuned!
