Pedro Marques leads final 13 in EPT Main Event

The festivities at the Casino Barcelona are a couple of days away from concluding, but there’s still a few important results pending at this stop of the European Poker Tour (EPT). The EPT Main Event was the highlight of this stop in Barcelona and the fourth official  day of play has come to an end.

Portugal’s Pedro Marques is in the chip lead after Day 4 of the EPT Barcelona Main Event, after Ireland’s Mark Buckley held the lead at the end of Day 3. Marques did well to chip up during this day, not being among the top 20 chip stacks at the end of the previous day, while Buckley slipped to the 6th biggest chip stack at the end of Day 4.

It was a record breaking EPT Main Event field of 1,931 entries and at the end of Day 4, the action has boiled down to the final 13 players. A few hours from now, the survivors will come out to continue grinding and battling for the coveted trophy and top-place pay-out of €1,611,500 (~INR 13.3 crore).

Among those who busted their stacks during the day were Anthony Chimkovitch (Day 1b chip leader), Kalidou Sow, Benjamin Pollak, Tom Alner, Upeshka De Silva and others. The top 296 players are paid out in this tournament and the current pay-out is at €88,250 for 13th place.

For Marques, he still has to be in there for a bit before he gets to score good enough to beat his previous highest live cash. He earned $352,775 for finishing third in a PokerStars Championship High Roller Event here in Barcelona itself last year and has a total of $567k in career live cashes, including 2 previous cashes in this EPT Barcelona series.

Top 10 current chip counts:

  1. Pedro Marques – 9,150,000
  2. Fabiano Kovalski – 8,745,000
  3. Rodrigo Carmo – 5,330,000
