Nick Marchington has dominated the North American Poker Tour (NAPT) Las Vegas Main Event and won it impressively, taking home $765,200. Marchington’s never-say-die attitude was out there for everyone to see, with him starting at the final table with a chip lead and holding it all the way. The total field was 895, and as usual, some of the toughest players of the game made their way to the Main Event. The total prize pool was $4,340,650.
It wasn’t just Marchington’s win that caused a flutter in poker circles, but also the way he did it. He went in a heads-up play with Joel Micka and took only one hand to send him off the felts. All the poker action was at the Resorts World final table, with the remaining players making their way to a cash prize of a lifetime.
At the start of the final hand, Marchington had a lead over Micka, with 21,475,000 chips to Micka’s 5,550,000. On the first hand, Marchington placed a 250,000-chip wager, which Micka matched. Marchington then increased his bet to 750,000, and Micka again matched it. On the final card, Marchington went all-in, and Micka matched the bet with a six-high straight. However, Marchington had a seven-high straight, securing his win and finishing his strong performance at the final table.
Rank | Player | Prize |
1 | Nick Marchington | $765,200 |
2 | Joel Micka | $478,450 |
3 | Jeff Madsen | $341,750 |
4 | Marco Johnson | $262,900 |
5 | Curt Kohlberg | $202,250 |
6 | Masato Yokosawa | $155,550 |
7 | Brock Wilson | $119,650 |
8 | Matt Affleck | $92,000 |
This is just one of Marchington’s several poker achievements. In 2019, the poker professional reached the final table of the WSOP Main Event, bowing out at Rank #5 and taking home $1,525,000. He has not reached that mercurial height since then, but with the way he is moving on in the poker world, that seems to be just something that will happen when the time is right. That is also his highest live cash as of this article. The poker hand is bound to go down in history, thanks to the dominating manner in which Marchington took the prize money home.

The NAPT returned to America after a gap last year and has since held events. The Las Vegas series began on November 1st and has since had events at regular intervals throughout the month. The last was the NAPT Las Vegas High Roller, $10,300, which Sam Soveral won, taking home $3,85,750. The first NAPT series, though, kicked off in America in 2010, with the only other two seasons taking place in 2011 and 2023.
