Ryan Tosoc Wins WPT Five Diamond Main Event

The WPT (World Poker Tour) Five Diamond World Poker Classic Main Event had been going on for 6 days and we finally have a winner - Ryan Tosoc from Chicago, Illinois. Coming into the final table, Tosoc was behind only Sean Perry in chips count, but he overtook him to win the title, and a whopping payday of $1,958,065 (~12,60,00,000 INR)!

Tosoc finished in 2nd place to James Romero in the same event last year ($1.1 million prize) but he ensured he went one step further in 2017, finishing in first and securing a live cash of nearly 2 million USD. With this win, Tosoc has taken his career live tournament winnings to over $3.5 million.

He beat a total of 812 competitors, in an event that had a buy-in of $10,400 (~6,69,000 INR).

Indian-origin poker player Ajay Chabra also had a chance of bagging the top prize; he was the chip leader coming into the final 18 players, and was fourth coming into the final 6. However, he wasn't able to capitalize on his position, and ultimately finished in 5th place.

Even though Perry had the chips lead coming into the final 6, he crashed out early, finishing fourth. Eventually, it was Alex Foxen who played the heads up stage with Tosoc. Foxen held A-10, while Tosoc held Q-10, and these cards opened up on the table: 9-3-K-J-J, giving the Chicago boy a straight, and the WPT Five Diamond Poker Classic title!

WPT Five Diamond Poker Classic Season XVI Final Standings:

  • Ryan Tosoc -$1,958,065
  • Alex Foxen - $1,134,202
  • Mike Del Vecchio - $752,196
  • Sean Perry - $504,090
  • Ajay Chabra - $350,500
