New Deltin Casino 2.5 Times Bigger Than The Current Ones

Delta Corp, one of India’s biggest gaming and hospitality brands, aims to bring a new casino vessel into the river Mandovi. The new vessel will be replacing Deltin Caravela and will be increasing the company’s current capacity by 2.5 times. While addressing analysts in a conference, Hardik Dhebar, Chief Financial Officer, said, “While the Goa state government has approved the proposal for a 100-acre entertainment and casino complex at Pernem,  an official announcement about the new vessel is yet to come through.” The new casino complex is expected to include electronic casinos, water parks, theatres and themed hotels which will be developed on 100 acres of land which is closer to the 100 acres of land close to Mopa.

Talking about the new casino project Dhebar said, “With respect to the 100-acre parcel, we already have the cabinet approval. We are ready with the project and our endeavour is to start the casino as soon as possible.” In February 2021, it was reported that Delta Corp would be investing over ₹150 Crore in a vessel. Currently, the capacity of the casinos is about 1,800 to 2,000 gaming positions while the new casino is expected to go up by at least 2.5 times.

Dhebar also added that they plan to add another 1,500 gaming positions, once the land-based casino is ready. The new casino is expected to be ready around monsoon but it will not be functional because of the closure of the river mouth, due to the Aguada sandbar. Last month, Delta Corp reported that the net profit of the brand declined to ₹48.1 Crore in the first quarter of 2022. Meanwhile, Delta Corp plans to challenge the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) order to stop operations at Deltin Caravela. The NGT added that the offshore flotel does not have coastal regulation zone (CRZ) clearance, while Delta Corp believes that it is not in violation of CRZ norms.
