Miriam Adelson Leads The Gaming Industry In Forbes 2022 Billionaires Rich List

Dr. Miriam Adelson has been named the highest-ranking gambling industry tycoon on the Forbes 2022 Billionaires Rich List. Adelson holds a lion’s share of a 53.7% stake in casino and resort company, Las Vegas Sands (LVS). The 76-year old ranked 50th on the Forbes 2022 list with a fortune of US$27.5 billion.

Adelson is the wife of LVS founder Sheldon Adelson, who passed away in 2021. She had previously ranked at the 36th spot in 2021, with a personal fortune of US$38.2 billion.

Even though she fell 14 places in the last 12 months due to the impact of COVID 19 on the global gaming giant’s Asian integrated resort empire, Adelson still managed to rank over 100 places higher than the second-highest industry competitor Lui Che Woo. Woo is the founder of Galaxy Entertainment Group and ranks at number 166.

Recently, Lui also ranked number 8 on Forbes’ list of the 50 Richest People in Hong Kong. Lui’s position fell 73 places on the global list from number 96 in 2021. His fortune dropped from US$19.4 billion in 2021 to US$11.6 billion in 2022. 

Progressing upwards this year was the largest single shareholder of Crown Resorts’ James Packer. He moved from number 956 in 2021 to number 778 in 2022 with a fortune of US$3.8 billion – up from US$3.2 billion, 12 months ago.

Wynn Resorts founder Steve Wynn retained his place on the list at 913 with a US$3.3 billion. The MGM China co-chairperson and managing director Pansy Ho ranked at number 951 with a fortune of US$3.2 billion against last year’s 665 with a fortune of US$4.3 billion.
