Millionaire Maker 1A: Ashish Ahuja, Neel Joshi lead 5 Indians

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) began barely two weeks ago in Las Vegas and out Indian players have already bagged a few big scores across various tournaments. The latest to begin was Event #19: Millionaire Maker – $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em, a tournament where Indians cashed big in 2018 as well.

This year, two starting flights were scheduled for the tournament and the first flight recently came to an end with a massive field of 3,930 entries participating and filling up the Brasilia, Pavilion and Amazon Rooms at the Rio All-Suites Hotel. This field then narrowed down to 968 survivors by the end of Day 1A.

5 Indians also progressed from the opening flight, led by Ashish Ahuja, someone who has been building his bankroll in recent months with many top online tournament victories. He progresses to Day 2 with a stack of 238,900 chips, while the other Indians to progress were Neel Joshi (195,900), Abhishek Goindi (165,200), Romit Advani (117,300), and Vivek Rughani (65,100).

PokerStars Team Pro Aditya Agarwal and Paawan Bansal also fired bullets on this opening flight but they couldn’t manage to get a bag by the end of the day. USA’s Garrett Greer ended as chip leader with a stack of 570k while 2-time bracelet winner Calvin Anderson was right behind him with 563k chips.

Day 1A top 10 chip counts:

  1. Garrett Greer – 570,600
  2. Calvin Anderson – 563,600
  3. Eder Murata – 506,000
  4. Orson Young – 417,300
  5. Soheb Porbandarwala – 406,000
  6. Keith Lehr – 383,000
  7. Susannah Altman – 381,200
  8. Luis Pinho – 373,800
  9. Jacob Naumann – 372,500
  10. Chris Hunichen – 366,800

This is Ahuja’s first trip to WSOP, and he began with a cash in Event #16 where he finished 142nd. Given his form in online and live poker in recent months, we’re expecting him to run deep and get his second cash of the series soon.
