Michael Soyza triumphant in 2019 APPT Korea SHR

The 2019 APPT Korea, which began at the Paradise City Casino in Incheon, started on 5^th April 2019 and will be hosted till 14^th April. The Main Event of the series will begin today, and apart from that another marquee event, KRW 10 million APPT Super High Roller saw Day 1 being hosted yesterday.

The event drew in a total of 62 players and only 21 successfully progressed to Day 2 which started today. India’s Yasheel Doddanavar was in the mix on Day 1 and was running good for the most part of the day, with a big stack  but was railed by China’s Jiang Chen (pictured a tthe bottom) before the bubble burst at 10^th place.

The progressors started the final day today at level 13 with blinds at 10k/20k/20k (big blind ante) with Japan’s Ken Obara in lead. Notably, Malaysia’s Michael Soyza (pictured above) railed Kun Jiang early in the game with Fours. A little later, Soyza crashed with Jiang Chen again but this time Chen’s Aces prevailed over Soyza’s ladies.

About an hour later, the 9-max FT was reached with Soyza, Chen,Obara, Russia’s Irshat Shaykhov and 5 other players in it.  Obara was eliminated at 8^th place, after fellow countryman Hideki Izutsu fell down (9^th – KRW 17,736,000), for KRW 23,240,000. Soyza went aggressive later and won a big pot against the Russian and Chen but Chen doubled up through Soyza himself a few hands later.

After the elimination of China’s Huahuan Feng at 3^rd place (KRW 83,480,000) by Soyza, he entered heads-up with Chen again and a little back and forth happened before finally Soyza put the tournament to an end making a club flush beating Chen’s gutshot straight draw that didn’t materialize. Soyza took home the first-place cash prize of KRW 178,890,000 (~INR 1.08 Crores) and Chen KRW 128,432,000 (~INR 77.73 Lakhs).

Soyza later commented after his win, “What can I say, you run like God, and you’re gonna win – get it in bad and then just suck out. There’s no secret to it; I just run good in Korea I guess. You just need to play a lot; play tons and put the practice in and the results will come. I don’t have any goals, I’m not chasing any all-time money lists, or any rankings or whatever, I just hopefully keep on making some money, that’s enough for me. It’s all about the money, the trophies don’t matter so much, and I already have them.“

Soyza became Natural8’s Team Hot member last December. He is a major figure in worldwide poker and more so on Asian felts. He recently earned a colossal amount of ~INR 10 Crores for winning a Triton event this year at Jeju. His career graph looks like a roller coaster that’s only going upward. He is in top form and will look to earn more such titles in coming high-stakes tournaments.
