The 12th International Gaming Awards (IGA) was hosted a couple of days ago. The star-studded event took place at The Savoy Hotel, an iconic place in London, UK. The event was hosted on 4th February and saw the who’s who of the gaming industry from across the planet.
A total of 28 awards were given away, out of which the Macau-based Melco Resorts and Entertainment earned the coveted award of ‘Socially Responsible Operator (land-based)’ in the Asia/Australia region.
Melco was shortlisted and named as the category’s winner by an esteemed panel of judges consisting of worldwide industry experts. With this award, Melco has been recognized as a proactive and innovative with its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Akiko Takahashi, executive Vice President and Chief Officer of Human Resources and CSR of Melco, received the award on behalf of the company. Lawrence Ho, Chairman and Executive Officer of Melco said, “Responsible gaming has been and continues to be a top priority for Melco. We are thrilled to receive this award from IGA as a testament to the efforts we dedicate to this highly significant focus area as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and would like to take this opportunity to thank the organizers and our employees who made this achievement possible.”
Melco makes use of a comprehensive framework to implement initiatives developed for responsible gaming including technology, community engagement and employee education. Melco is also the first gaming and integrated resort in Asia to implement facial recognition systems at all entrances.
Most recently, the company sponsored a gaming public service video on primetime television. The video promoted the importance of family and the support one gets from their loved ones in times of struggle. Melco also regularly hosts responsible gaming workshops for women free of charge.
Melco is also the first and only operator to receive the CSR Gold Award twice at the Business Awards of Macau (2013 and 2017). The company currently operates Altira Macau and the City of Dreams Macau. It also owns majority shares of Studio City Macau and the City of Dreams Manila.
