Mark Reyes leads APT Taiwan Championships Event Day 1A


Asian Poker Tour (APT) began its series in Taiwan for the first time beginning on 20th Feb, the Main Event already declared its champion in Chow Cliff, who took home a good amount. The next big tournament in the series, Championships Event Day 1A had begun yesterday.

Mark Reyes leads Day 1A Championships Event

The event has a buy-in of TWD 49.5k and a colossal TWD 5 million is kept aside as the tournament guarantee. Day 1A attracted 122 runners and they all collectively surpassed the guaranteed amount and with one more flight remaining, the amount is expected to double.

Eight rounds were played in the event yesterday which brought the field down to 61 players qualifying for Day 2. Leading these was Philippines’ Mark Reyes with 358,200 chips. Reyes won Short Deck (Shot Clock) in the series a couple days ago and is in top from. Trailing him at 2nd place is UK’s Ben Lai with 353,800 chips, just a few chips away from the top spot.

Heavyweights like Single Day HR winner Guo Dong (12th), Sparrow Cheung (26th) and Lim Yohwan (30th) are also in the mix and will be looking forward to playing on Day 2. Other survivors were Alan Lau King LunAPT Kickoff Vietnam Player of the Series Michael Kim FalconMarc Rivera, High Rollers 1 winner Ian Modder and Natalie Teh. Day 2 of the Championships Event will take place on 1st March at 1 pm and Day 1B will run today.

Aleksei Varashev wins NLH Single Day 2

Another APT Taiwan side-event ended a day before. It was the NLH Single 2 where it attracted 120 runners for a buy-in of TWD 7.7k a piece. The prize pool created was TWD 814,300 out of which only top 20 places were paid.

The player to emerge victorious in this was Russia’s Aleksei Varashev who took home TWD 202,300 (~INR 4.66 Lakhs) as 1st place cash prize, beating local Lin Yu Sheng in heads-up, who bagged TWD 135k.
