Macau Poker Cup 28 Kicks Off This Weekend

Launched in May 2008, the Macau Poker Cup has slowly been rising in popularity over the years, as Macau has gradually been overtaking Las Vegas as the world’s most popular gambling destination. Starting this weekend is the 28th edition of the Macau Poker Cup, or simply MPC 28.

MPC 28 will be a 17-day long tournament series to be contested between 26th January and 11th February 2018. It will feature a total of 31 different events including the famous ‘RED DRAGON’ Main Event, which has a buy-in of HKD 15,000 and an HKD 10,000,000 guaranteed prizepool.

The entire series will take place at the PokerStars LIVE Macau poker room at the City of Dreams. For players from India and the rest of Asia, this has become one of the most important stops on the Asian poker calendar and you can expect quite a few Indian players to finish in the money of the Red Dragon Main Event.

The first Red Dragon event took place a decade ago in 2008 and it saw only 33 Main Event players participating. However, it has grown leaps and bounds since then, and MPC 27’s Main Event saw a massive field of 1,308 participating players. Will the MPC Main Event be able to break its own record again?

A huge number of Chinese players finished ITM in MPC 27’s Red Dragon event, including Qiuming Qin, who won the Main Event and secured the top prize of HK$3,141,000 ($401,432). The highest placed Indian in that event was Ankush Prasad, who crashed out at 10th place and won HK$223,000.

Apart from the Main Event, MPC 28 will also have other exciting tournaments like the Baby Dragon, Megastack, $25,000 NLH, Single Day High Roller and other High Roller events. You can get the full schedule of events of MPC 28 here.
