Yuri Dzivielevski, a 32-year-old professional poker player from Brazil, has Polish roots through his grandmother, which explains the Polish pronunciation of his surname as “Div-E-Le-Ski.” His poker journey began at the age of 16. His well-known nickname, “theNERDguy,” was coined during his teenage years when he was passionate about graffiti and was part of a team called Nerds. At 18, when he needed a poker nickname, he chose “theNERDguy,” reflecting his love for learning.

Despite his burgeoning poker success, Yuri’s parents hoped he would pursue higher education like his siblings. However, Yuri recognised that his poker earnings made quitting the game for college impractical. Yuri’s serious poker journey began at 18, following a period of training since age 16. Early in his career, he faced the challenge of losing his entire bankroll, a lesson that instilled in him the importance of strict bankroll management.

In 2014, during the WCOOP on PokerStars, Yuri achieved a significant milestone by finishing second and earning $708,251 with six players remaining in the tournament. This substantial prize marked the beginning of his successful career, leading him to the top of the PocketFives rating the same year.

Yuri’s first major live poker win came in 2011, when he finished second and earned $109,449. Though he didn’t frequently participate in live poker events, his 2013 trip to the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas yielded no big cashes. However, in 2015, he won the Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP) and earned $175,155.

Yuri’s ambition extended beyond online success; he aimed to achieve fame by winning a WSOP bracelet. He accomplished this in 2019 by winning his first WSOP bracelet in a $2,500 buy-in Mixed Omaha High/Low 8 or Higher tournament, taking home $213,750. Over the years, Yuri has added four more bracelets to his collection, underscoring his remarkable skill and dedication to the game.
