The 2019 Aussie Millions is currently making waves in the Southern hemisphere. The popular Australian series is currently underway at the Crown Casino Melbourne. The series already saw a few events declaring its champions. Canada’s Ari Engel won his second Aussie Millions ring after winning the 2016 Main Event. The Opening Event was won by local pro Muhammad Asad.
The series will end on 4th February 2019 and still has a lot of action left. Along with the above-mentioned events, there were also some side-events concluded. Here’s a round-up.
The event had a buy-in of AUD 1,150 (~INR 58,240) and attracted a total field of 542 entries, creating pretty sizeable prize pool of the tournament. Belgian pro Bart Lybaert won the event after overcoming the huge field and earned AUD 124,355 (~INR 62.47 Lakhs).
Lybaert beat Australia’s Travis Endersby in the heads-up battle to score his second event victory in a little over two weeks. He won the 2019 PCA $2,200 NLHE for $250,391. The runner-up had a great lead in heads-up, doubling up thrice at the Final Table, but eventually lost to Lyabaert. Endersby took home AUD 82,695 for his runner-up finish and had earned another AUD 6,640 for 8th place in Shot Clock Shootout in the series earlier.
The champion, Lybaert, had made his biggest live score in 2017 PokerStars National Championship event and had earned $432,856 at 3rd place. His 2nd and 3rd came last year at the 2018 WSOP, finishing 3rd in The Marathon event and 24th in ME. already had a good $2.7+ million in total live earnings and this win will add another wholesome amount to his bankroll.
Final Table Pay-outs:
The event attracted a good field of 288 entries at the Aussie Millions. New Zealand’s Paul Hockin emerged on top after a heads-up deal. He took home AUD 60,070 (~INR 30.38 Lakhs) as 1st place cash prize after the deal.
Hockin had made the deal with Australia’s Dylan Kii. The latter had to settle for $45,025 as the runner-up cash prize. Heads-up was fairly short and lasted just 30 minutes, during which the deal happened. Eventually, it was Hockin who denied Kii his victory with a runner-runner straight on the river and secured his pay-check.
Hockin is a well-known player in the Australian-New Zealand poker circuit and had made two Final Table finishes in 2018 Aussie Millions, one in Shot Clock Shootout and second in the Six Max event. He even shipped the ANZPT Main Event back in 2012 for over AUD 100k. Hockin has earned his 1st ANTON Championship Ring with this win and will be looking forward to an exciting and adrenaline rushing 2019 with this awesome start.
Final Table Pay-outs:
After two days of exiting poker action in the tournament this event declared its champion who beat three separate tables – America’s Justin Liberto. The player has added AUD 36,220 (~INR 18.32 Lakhs) as 1st place cash prize to his earnings.
Travis Endersby was also playing in the event and finished 8th in the Shot Clock Shootout for AUD 6,640. The champion had Adam Kane as his heads-up opponent. The latter made his first recorded cash since 2009 in the series and his biggest till date. He even finished 164th in this series’ Opener and earned a pay-check there, where local pro Muhammad Asad came 1st.
Coming back to the champion Liberto, he is an acclaimed American pro with over $3 million in total recorded earnings. His biggest cash of $640,711 came when he shipped the Six Handed at 2015 WSOP, earning a gold bracelet too. He has plenty of cashes from WSOP events.
His next 2nd and 3rd biggest earnings also come from 2013 and 2018 WSOP respectively, making it his favourite destination for poker, as is with players around the world. In fact, this is Liberto’s fourth cash outside America, something that’s noteworthy for a man with over $3 million in lifetime earnings.
