Lee Yin How wins APL Main Event; 4 Indians cash

Singapore’s Lee Yin How won the Main Event at the ongoing Asia Poker League in Vietnam late last night. He outlasted 864 entries to win the first place prize of VND 1,476,000,000 (~INR 43.26 Lakhs) in what has been one of the biggest Main Events taking place in this part of the world. 

There were four starting flights to this Main Event with the final starting flight attracting 230 entries taking the total up to 864. A pretty huge contingent of players went from India to participate in this event. While there are limited details on their exact cashes, Gutshot is aware about four Indians who finished in the top 100 (107 players made it to the money). All four are well known on the domestic poker circuit and they include Dhaval Mudgal (81st) and Manoj Pentakota (63rd). The last two players were the only ones who managed to make it to Day 3. Sahil Agarwal went on to finish in 32nd place while Adarsh Jayappa, who won a title earlier in the APL series, ran the deepest among the Indians, finishing in 15th place.

The final table was set featuring three players from Vietnam and there was also a female player in the final nine with Natalie Segon from Australia hoping to be the first female winner of this APL Main Event title. However that dream fell agonsingly short as Segon fell in second place to Singapore’s Lee Yin How. The final hand took place in Level 36 with blinds at 300k-600k-60k ante. With Jc Ks, Segon made it 2 million to go and chipleader How decided to make the call with 8h Th to see a flop of Jd 3h 9h of which both players caught a piece. How decided to exert pressure and moved all-in with his flush draw and Segon with top pair quickly made the call hoping for a double up. The turn 4h completed How’s flush and Qs on the river was when the entire rail around the final table exploded with cheers signalling the end of the Main Event and the crowning of a new champion in Lee Yin How of Singapore.
