World Series of Poker (WSOP) hosts their Circuit tournaments called WSOPC all over the United States and plenty of enthusiasts from across the country come to the series in large numbers, making it a festival of extravagant poker action.
Like the WSOP’s prestigious bracelet, the WSOPC have events that awards rings to its winners. Since 2005, its inception, 900+ rings have been awarded. 20 players have won at least 5 rings. In a recent development, American pro Kyle Cartwright, who already had 7 rings to his name, has bagged another one, this time at WSOPC Horseshoe Tunica in Mississippi. He won the $1,700 ME beating 639 entries for $198,451 (~INR 1.41 Crores), a 2019 Global Casino Championship seat and the coveted ring.
Cartright had won his 7th ring in WSOPC IP Biloxi ME back in September 2017. He now joins Chris Reslock who has 8 WSOPC rings under his belt. Romania’s Valentin Vornicu sits with 12 rings, the highest anyone has ever won. Canada’s Ari Engel, who just won his 2nd Aussie Millions ANTON ring this month, sits at 4th alongside two other players with 9 WSOPC rings.
Cartwright told the press after his win, “I’ve been traveling now for a while, so anytime you get a win, I mean they are so hard to win, these tournaments. This is the first time my mom has watched me play live poker. It was great having my family here!”
The WSOP Tunica win makes Cartwright’s fourth WSOPC ME victory. He finished 2nd against 293 entries in $600 NLHE in the series, a hair-length away from earning another ring. Coming to the tournament, the final day began with 8 players competing for the prize. Heads-up saw Cartwright pitted against Steve Klein and was already in the chip lead with 2:1. Last hand saw Klein shove with pocket Fours, hoping to hold against Cartwright’s As 10h. The river of 10s spelled doom for Klein and he had to settle for 2nd place cash prize of $122,802.
Cartwright later said, “That guy heads-up man, he owned me for two days straight I couldn’t beat him. So, I thought for sure in the final hand that was a flip, that he for sure would get it, but somehow I came through and won.”
