Kunal Patni and Paawan Bansal have made the Indian poker community super proud and have achieved the pride of snagging a final table position at the most prestigious tournament series in poker history, the World Series of Poker (WSOP). The two made this achievement in Event #68 of the WSOP 2025, with Patni taking a whopping $224,833 and Bansal taking $77,760. The two reigned almost supreme in an event that had more than 2,000 entries, and the buy-in, too, was a considerable $3,000. However, with the amount the two have taken home, the buy-in looks like chump change.
Position | Name | Country | Winnings |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Yilong Wang | China | $830,685 |
2 | Ran Ilani | Israel | $553,692 |
3 | Ren Lin | China | $406,016 |
4 | Yuliyan Kolev | Bulgaria | $300,649 |
5 | Kunal Patni | India | $224,833 (~₹1.92 Crore) |
6 | Seunghyun Nam | United States | $169,818 |
7 | Fabrizio Gonzalez | Italy | $129,563 |
8 | Jason Richard | United States | $99,859 |
9 | Paawan Bansal | India | $77,760 (~₹70 Lakh) |
Patni had a fantastic run at the felt, with him even being the chip leader on day 2, fuelling the dream of another Indian winning the prestigious WSOP title. However, as the third day dawned, his chip size whittled away, until he decided to go All In when the table showed 5 ♣ A ♠ and 8 ♠. His hand had 2 8s, but Ran Ilani took the day with A ♦ and 7 ♦
Earlier Paawan Bansal had to bid adieu to the crowd, when his K ♦ , Q ♦ were no match to Yilong Wang’s A ❤ , J ❤ and the flop coming up with 10 ❤ , A ♣ and 10 ♠, giving the latter a 2 pair.
This was a bracelet event, and there are no prizes for guessing whether Paawan and Kunal are now in the hunt for a WSOP bracelet, the quintessential piece of poker jewellery. Indians have won the WSOP bracelet earlier, with poker legend Santhosh Suvarna even having two in his kitty. But as they say about achievements, one more doesn’t hurt.

With this, Indian poker players have once again added their name to WSOP history. The current WSOP 2025 has seen several Indians in the ITM Lists, but this is one of the first times that not one but two Indians are in the Final Table of a WSOP 2025 event. Indians have figured in several WSOP 2025 ITMs, including Zarvan Tumboli in the whopper of an Event #59 Battle of the Ages.
The 56th World Series of Poker began on 27th May and will end on 16th July. It is continuing at Horseshoe & Paris Las Vegas, featuring 100 live bracelet events. From Event 1’s Mystery Millions to high-stakes mixed games and high rollers, the series showcased elite and rising talent.
