Kunal Patni is having a great time at the Asian Poker Tour—APT Phu Quoc 2024 series. The live poker event has been running since 8th November and will wrap up on the 17th of this month. Patni has been in Phu Quoc for a while now, and news about his exploits at the felts is now trickling down. The event is hosted at the Corona Resort & Casino, located in the Corona Theater in Phu Quoc, Vietnam.
Patni was part of event #19: VND 4 Million Tick Tock BOOM! Super Hold’em, in which players could choose the hole cards they would use, and the choice included not using them at all. Patni was locked in battle and went on for a heads-up play. He ended up being the runner-up, taking home VND 35.70 Million (~₹1.19 Lakh). He lost to Sam Nigel Insole, who shipped the event for VND 51 Million. The event had 49 entries.
Prior to this, Patni registered for event #1, the Vietnam National Cup, for VND 5 Billion GTD. He was among the final-day contestants and reached the final table; his run ended in 9th place. Patni took home VND 82.27 Million (~₹2.74 Lakh). Krisada Pinthakasetrin took the cup and VND 966,530,000. This event had 579 entries, and the buy-in was VND 990,000.

APT Phu Quoc 2024 is the latest series by one of the most prominent names in the Asian and international live poker industry, the Asian Poker Tour. Founded in 2008, APT has grown rapidly, hosting tournaments in various countries, including the Philippines, Vietnam, and Taiwan. Patni’s poker exploits are helping solidify his spot as one of India’s finest and most popular poker players. He has had a great 2024, captaining Deccan Aces, the winning team at the Poker Sports League (PSL 6). It remains to be seen which other achievements he racks up before the year ends.

Patni has been playing for decades, and in an interview with Gutshot Magazine (link shared above), he spoke about his experience at PSL 6. His best live cash to date is $115,819, which he achieved in 2018 at the World Poker Tour—WPT European Championship, Berlin, at € 1,350 + 150 No Limit Hold’em, when he ranked second to Dustin Mangold. His first cash, according to Hendon Mob, was in 2014, at the Asia Pacific Poker Tour – APPT Asia Championship of Poker, Macau, when he shipped the HK$ 2,500 No Limit Hold’em Rebuy Championship and took home $22,714.
