Kartik Ved is Main Event Champion of Nov Spartan Super Series

Whenever The Spartan Poker hosts an edition of the Spartan Super Series (SSS), there’s always a lot of excitement among Indian poker players. Each time, the series boasts of some really high-value online poker tournaments, and this edition was no different, with plenty of chances to win.

As always, the highlight of the series is the Main Event, scheduled for the last day of the series. There was a total of 5 tournaments scheduled for SSS Day 5 yesterday, but none were even close to how intense SSS Event #25 Main Event INR 75 Lakh GTD was set to be.

The tournament had an expensive INR 11,000 buy-in and even with that, we saw a total of 831 entries by the end of the late registration. This saw the massive guarantee being passed and the players all set to divide among themselves a huge prize pool of INR 83.1 lakh.

One man who has been making a name for himself in the poker industry since quite a few years is Kartik Ved or ‘TheInternetKid’ as he is referred to in online poker. He has several wins in online poker, to go with a few in live poker and he also owns a poker stable of his own called AceJack.

Now last night would’ve been one of the highlights of his career so far, for he ended victorious in the prestigious SSS Main Event, winning a massive prize amount of INR 15,04,110. Winning 7-figure scores in online poker in India is never easy but Kartik Ved did it again last night, ending what was nearly a 12-hour grind.

The SSS series ended on a banging note for Ved, who would’ve gone to bed this morning a very happy man. The tournament which began at 6pm last evening ended at 5:22am this morning and Ved slashed through many opponents to win this title, including some of India’s top pros. When Gutshot caught up with him, he said, “I’m very thrilled with this win. I would like to say thanks to The Spartan Poker for organizing big guarantee tournaments such as the SSS Main Event, as well as for a great playing experience.”

72 players finished in the money with a minimum cash prize of INR 29,085. Among those who finished in the money for small cashes were Anirban Das (65th), Sahil Mahboobani (55th), Jayjit Ray (47th), Sahil Agarwal (45th), Sagar Choudhury (43rd) who won a title the previous night, ‘ReDut’ (42nd) who won the SSS HighRoller, Shravan Chhabria (37th), and others.

The first 6-figure pay-out went to the eventual SSS Leaderboard winner, Monish Kumar, who was brilliant right from Day 1 of the series. Here, he finished 12th for INR 1,20,495, while Goonjan Mall aka ‘gmtesting’ finished 11th for the same prize amount. India’s first WSOP gold bracelet winner Aditya Sushant aka ‘SuperuSer’ was also on the FT, finishing 5th for INR 4,57,050.

Heads-up then began between Rajat Sharma aka ‘Garammasala’ and Kartik Ved, with both of them promised 7-figure scores and the title still to play for. Both had done extremely well to get here but it was Ved who was superior on the night, taking advantage of a good chip lead and bringing home the SSS Main Event title.

He had more than a 2:1 chip lead going into the final hand which was played in Level #63 where the blinds were 48,000/96,000 – 9,600. Here, the action ran down till the river card as the board opened Th 3s 4c 5d 5h and Sharma decided to go all-in on the river, revealing 7d Ts and Tens and Fives. However, Ved had 2d Ah and he hit a straight by the turn itself.

Ved took down the pot and all the chips left in the tournament to win the title and Sharma had to settle for the runner-up prize of INR 10,88,610, which is still quite a massive prize amount. For more updates on online poker in our country, keep reading GutshotMagazine.com.
